After you read PG, GE looks a whole lot better.

"You belong in Gryffindor,
where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

my favourite part of the book is when bartimaeus is debated on what to do about lovelace's messenger imp.

"the safest and most sensible thing to do was to ignore the envelopes he was carrying and concentrate instead on being friends with him. i could, for instance, adopt the semblance of another messenger imp and start up a conversation, perhaps winning his confidence during the course of several 'chance' meetings. if i were patient, friendly and casual enough, he would no doubt eventually spill some beans . . . or i could just beat him up instead"

i crack up every time i read it.

Why?

I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

I liked the part when Barti steals the Amulet, and fights Faquarl and Jabor.

hmm...I loved the first chapter when he summoned bartimaeus, the end where he got rid of ramathura, and any part with barti, really. he's just so amusing!

The scenes with Barti and Faquarl were simply priceless.

Yes, his "inching toward the window" made me laugh out loud. I can just see it as it plays out in my head...

He had a great personality. More subtle than Barti, and as dangerous as Jabs when he wanted to be.

Although personally if I wanted to listen to a Djinni, I'd talk to Barti. The sarcasm makes everything soooo much more interesting...

Nah, my fav scene for them was: "I apologize for that incident in the copse, and for our fights over the Amulet, and for that Convulsion from behind I got you with, back in Heidelberg in 'thirty-two" - I hestitated - "which I see you didn't know was me..."

I can just imagine Faquarl's face.

I liked that one too. Except it's in the third one and this is the AoS thread.

... I gotta try to remember where I am sometimes.

Bah, then the best one is AoS was indeed the convo between Barti and Faquarl when they meet each other for the first time in that book.

That's ok. Heh-heh, "Jabor's quite a persistant fellow, isn't he" Or something along the lines of that...
