I absolutely loved the 3rd book. I stayed up til 3 in the morning reading it. I thought the character development was really well done and realistic. And I can't believe Miss Lutyens was such a pivotal character for Nathaniel's development even though she was in less than half a chapter.

Next would have to be the Amulet. I didn't really like Golem's Eye when I first read it. I might read it again and my opinions of it might change, since I just finished with Amulet for the 2nd time.

churchill was a big magician too I think.

To prove my point I lifted one of his fingers and methodically picked his nose. He uttered a squawk of protest. "Stop that!"'
I lowered the arm. "That's not all I can do if I put your mind to it"'

Yes, it definitely mentions Churchill being a powerful magician. Not quite as powerful as Gladstone, though.

He's in same league as him; I think, entombed in the westminister abbey. Along with Gladstone and Disraeli.

Almost every prime minister is buried in Westminster Abbey I think - not just the powerful ones. Churchill is definitely mentioned as one of the powerful ones, though.

He has to be good, although it would be interesting to hear the alternate WWII reality, as Britain had control of Europe, all the way to Prague? :hmm:

World war II didn't happen. Prague was conquered in 1887 (Book II) I'm doing a fic on it.

Being a powerful Prime Minister.
Or perhaps he crushed a rebellion somewhere.

I thought the third was better than the second, but the first was the best because I like hearing the various backgrounds behind the characters and how they got to be where they are in later books.

Amulet was a fantasy book so i picked it up. It was good, but im finding it hard to get books i consider good, so when i found out the second and the third were out already i went buy the first two because the third wasn't out in paperback yet. In my opinion, Golems Eye must have been good or no one would have bothered reading Ptolemys Gate. I for one didn't find anything wrong with Eye and really enjoyed the part where Barti talks to Kitty. I had to have Gate. My copy of Eye came with the little excerpt from Gate and I just had to have it, but the paperback edition wasnt going to be out for 6-8 months!!! I actually sat on the floor in every store we went to that had a book section and read while my parents shopped. I ended up getting it for my birthday and it blew everything else I had ever read completely out of the water. Brought me very close to tears at the end. I still wanna cry because its over.
I loved the Bartimaeus books but, like all trilogies, it was way too short.
I just love how nathaniel is a jerk (not the word I would like to use) in golems eye.
Since in alot of fantasy books I have read the main character is a selfless hero who would do anything for the good of others.
Golems Eye breaks away from this and thats why I love it.
But I agree with most (if not all) of you, Ptomoleys Gate is wicked.

Isn't there a quote about Whitewell saying "This will be the worst uprising since 1914."? World War II Anyone?

World War I was in 1914
third was my favourite, first was very close though! i didn't like the second because Barti and Nat weren't as close as with the others.... but all the same, the whole trilogy was fab
