Still, I think the beauty of the ending is that you get to imagine the rest. It isn't absolutely one way or the other. We can still ship ridiculous pairs like Barti/Golem.

Back to the topic...
I didn't like the "typical master" part. Firstly, because Nathaniel was not a typical master at the end of the book. Secondly, because that would mean that Ptolemy was a "typical master" too, and he wasn't.
I think Barti liked Nat in the end. Not as much as Ptolemy, but he did feel respect.

I thought by the ned of the book Barti had a great respect for Nat, not in the same way as Ptolmey or Kitty but respecting his magical abilities and sticking with him for as long as he did.
