Mindi Jackson , I think I'm in love. Now I just need to get famous.
Good for you then.

I agree with Dansariki. Though I've noticed lately, during discussions in World Religions (four students in the class are Christian, three are Muslim), that younger people who are religious are pretty calm about their beliefs, and are willing to listen to other interpretations (Most, though, not all.

Hmmm, Atheists are overepresented here.

Some people are just wired to think of issues as a two sided thing. Right and Wrong. Lack of doubt is a dangerous thing.

And just how atheist are you? I lean toward nihilism myself.

I know. Drives me up the wall.. (They're mostly arts students; I'm pretty sure all the really evangelical ones are arts students - I know a few religious scientists but they're all fairly quiet about it.) Wandering around in hoodies reading "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free" and organising events like "port and board games evening!" with "and a short talk on Christianity" in tiny print at the bottom..

Perhaps future Christian banks are in the works?

To be completely fair, you can't blame a minority for expressing themselves (even if it becomes a flaunting of their beliefs) in an environment that is in general opposition to their beliefs. I visited a few Catholic colleges with my older brother (college scouting as a senior in high school) and there were "evangelical" groups of atheists doing similar things that the Christians do at your university.

But I can see how it gets annoying; the "fine print" tactics mentioned in your post.

They aren't even a significant minority - there are quite a lot of religious people here (I wouldn't like to guess percentages, but they're clearly not a massive minority; I'd hazard a guess they outnumber atheists). They're just smugly superior assholes.. The attitude that we're atheist because we somehow haven't found out about how awesome their god is drives me insane. This is Oxford for crying out loud! We're intelligent people and quite capable of making an informed choice! You're not enlightening us, you're pissing us off!

And breathe. And go back and delete the swearing. And post..

...Nuns don't even get to do martial arts!
But think of all those songs, mainly from movies about nuns, that you can break out into, like if I have to counsel depressed people or something, i could do "Happiness is a warm gun" and then when I get into cabbage, i'd do the "Mother Superior" part.

Also, the guy who partially convinced me is awesome, so don't hate. look:

I did my confession with him, and i told him about the 5 finger discount I give and get from my friends and he's starts laughing and telling me his cheating-the-system stories from childhood. Unfortunatly, when I asked him why Catholics hate gay people, he said "no we don't hate them, but..." and then the sunlight hit his beard and I started admiring the natural highlights, went home got them done on my head, and then my gay friends said they looked great. So I'm going with the Skins approach on that one, because if i ask him again, he'll think I don't love him as much as i really do.

Sentynel, I apologize if my post upset you. I just made an assumption of the religious/non-religious ratios at Oxford that I thought was accurate, and based my post on that; I'm sorry if I was incorrect. I wasn't trying to choose sides, I was just making what I believed was a fair point; I see no need to include me with the fanatics at your university. Again, sorry.

But, still, Being a nun doesn't strike me as a career choice. More like a thing you do post epiphany. Are you studying Science, Commerce or Arts?

Part of me is an atheist, another part an agnostic & yet another a polytheist. Though it sounds mighty outre, it's possible to be all 3. I cannot call myself a 'complete' atheist, though I do lean more towards atheism than any other form of belief. What I am definitely not is a monotheist. I also don't believe religion & God are interlinked. Jesus & Allah are the same to me as the scores of Hindu Gods & Goddesses. There are all the same-supernatural being who spread the message of love & tolerance. Yet people manage to differentiate them. But I would never play with the religious beliefs of other people-I have seen & read enough to realize some people take it very seriously & it's dangerous to try & change them. But I hope the devout people give quarter the respect & love they feel for their God to other living beings. Some scriptures say God exists in each & everyone of us, yet some forget that in their quest to sainthood (is that the right word?). The world would then be a better place to live in.

Hey, woah, I think you've got the wrong end of the stick there.. I'm not annoyed at you, I'm annoyed at the aforementioned evangelicals.

Well I doubt you'd be the type to be attracted to the kind of sites where Christ worship and the like are prevalent. :P
