Paolini has at least started to capitalise on his potential. Maybe I have the potential to be a fantastic chef, but if I don't use that potential, I might as well not have it.

his books suck i have read them because i started the series before I really developed a sense of good book taste they suck though i will red teh next one because i cant start something and not finish it becasue i am OCD like that

can we say suck.....because if not i am sorry....though it belongs there.....

A forum where you can't say 'suck' is a forum that needs to reconsider how strict it is. A kid sees people cussing and dead bodies on TV all the time, so I don't think a forum will do much.

Please at least try and back up statements such as 'they all suck' with evidence.

And yeah, 'suck' is allowed.

to me, the books just have a 'je ne sais quoi' that appeals to me (greatly)

The characters are stale and unintriguing - at best. The two most interesting characters, Brom and Murtagh, aren't very good, really. Brom is just another Gandalf clone, to tell the truth, and Murtagh is just a stereotypical "will-he-won't-he" character. Eragon is perilously close to being a Gary Stu, as Arya (well, her name's something like that) is very close to being a Mary Sue. Full of cliched characters that have all been done before, and not much to add. And I really wanted to kill myself when Saphira started talking. She's so dull.

Although it was a decent book.

I think that Saphira's personality is somewhat origional

I think that you are overlooking the fact that he was also obviously influenced by Anne McCaffery after all she had dragon riders in her books though they weren't quite the same. A lot of people don't see this. The ending of the second one also kind of reminded me of Starwars.
Krim Horla
I believe I mentioned he stole the DragonRider idea as well, Talim. Good call though, I didn't know the author's name so you helped me there. Also, how is a personality in a book original? I think every single possible personality has been done, from nonchalant to crazy psycho midget with a lawnmower. Trust me, in some of the stories people have made, it'll be on there. I doubt anyone has an 'original personality' nowadays. What's so original anyways? She's a woman dragon, she's not all that complex.

Anne McCaffery is quoted on some editions of Eragon saying she likes it.

There are books with crazy psycho midgets with lawnmowers? You read weird books, Krim...

Shadow: Have you read every book ever made?

Sen: There are two ways a person can take it --- be pissed off someone stole their idea, or be happy that her idea is getting recognition. Anne liking Eragon doesn't make it any less of a rip-off.

un uh: all elves used to be super beings all tall and strong which is what Tolkien used in his books: it was only later that elves turned into little squeaky fairys with wings and frequent attitude problems.

I'm getting £5.50 for Eragon. Not really that much - has it been released in paperback where you are?

I never said that that makes it less of a rip off, just (as you said) that the author is happy that her idea is getting recognition - if the idea did actually come from her books. Might have done, might not have done.

Mhm. Whatever, it's the matter of opinion. A lot of books are great, it's only Paolini's age when he SUPPOSEDLY started writing Eragon that made it a hit. - shoots up room with AK-47. - He seriously overdoes description, and he needs to figure out how to actually make a decently paced novel.
