Trying my driver's handbook, AGAIN. Anyone here actually have their licence?
You just became 18 and you are already trying?

I've been planning to get a license for the past two years. And yes, I too keep forgetting (/feel too lazy) about organizing anything for it.

Let me know how the new New Artemis Fowl book is, footstool. If it is good, I'm buying it. The sixth one was pretty disappointing.

We-ell, you can start the whole licence process when you're 16 here, first there's a written test and then you need to drive with an adult for like a year before taking a practical exam. I've just never bothered taking the written test yet, not that I need to, being in a city with a good transit system. But people keep bugging me ("You should still get one just in case... blah, blah, blah") so it's mainly so they'll shut up about it.

*Is jealous*
BTW, out of pure curiosity, which car do you practise driving in?

I've driven our old mini-van like twice.

Driving's a bigger part of society over here because there's such a big distance between everything. Probably partly explains why we use the most energy per capita in the world...

The age you can get your driving license varies. It's 17 here (UK), and I assume it's 18 where n&b is (India).

*shrug* I know people who aren't TOTAL IDIOTs and have failed multiple times. And some not-so-bright people who have passed. I guess it depends on what test you get.

I live in downtown Ottawa, biking or bus can get me anywhere I need to go <-- my excuse for why I still don't have it yet
I wish I were a cat-dragon

Yeah, it is 18 here. For cars, vans and everything except motorcycles. You can get a license for motorcycles at the age of 16.

And, even I did have a driving license, I would hardly drive. It is much better to use public transport here (and much cheaper). And anyway, even if I do want to drive, I would hardly get the satisfaction. Roads are jammed with vehicles and sometimes, honestly, it is faster to walk to a place than drive.

And yeah, a 16 or a 17 year old can only ride motorcycles which have an engine capacity of not more than 50 cubic capacity. Just checked. I knew there was something regulating that too.

Heh, for anyone born on or after 1995, they have to be 18 to drive. It used to be 16. =p

So there's going to be a two year gap from the beginning of next year when nobody new becomes eligible to learn to drive? Isn't that going to kill off driving schools' revenues?

Nah, they'd still get people who hadn't gotten it when they were 16, and people who have to take it again due to being arrested or something. Taking driver's ed was never mandatory in the first place (good too, it's like $700).

Anyways, I've never heard of what Nero's talking about before. I know you can't get it until you're 18 here if you drop out of school, but that's it.

Yeah, but they get those anyway. The majority of their income will be from people who are just old enough to drive.

Just finished Atlantis Complex. Very random, but certainly a lot better than Time Paradox.

I thought Atlantis Complex was the best so far, but

I miss Artemis' criminal schemes. His character doesn't make sense when he's being nice. And all the flirting with Holly as Orion...
Quick question to Artemis Fowl readers: does anyone else actually enjoy translating the Gnommish at the bottom of each page, or is that just me?
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

Really?

Hmm. Maybe I've got it wrong.

Nice to know it's not just me...when I asked some friends at school they gave me very blank stares :P

The Ring Of Solomon ^_^
hi there

We were....just getting....to that

RoS: can't wait! I wonder if the whole book is going to be written from Bartimaeus' point of view. It would be pretty cool to read a chapter from Faquarl's POV, if he's in it (which he needs to be!)

Edit: I've just realised that this wasn't the Ring of Solomon discussion topic, and therefore have no idea why I said that.
