Reading the Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. Just wanted to see what it's like. (I wonder if it's on the Index of Forbidden Books...)
How was it?

The Subtle Knife, by Phillip Pullman. 1/2 way through.
Von Neumann's War, John Ringo. Aprox. 1/4 way through.
Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea, Aprox. 1/4 way through.
Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand. Re-readng Galt's Speech.
Fox at the Front, Douglas Niles & Michael Dobson. Just Started.
The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien. Just started.
The Stand, Stephen King. Re-read.

cabbagee, I'm reading a lot.

The Golden Compass is doubtless on Banned Books lists around the 'civilized' world.
It's anti-religios view piss too many people off.
Being Atheist, I laugh at them.
I also laugh, even hardly probably, at the Atheists that hate god.

The ending wasn't what I expected, it was just the old usual happy ending (not that I don't like it).

The parts where they were condemning Uriah Heep made me read the book all the way till midnight. :D

Mmm, yes the happy ending's a wee bit a let down. Still good.

Same with Uriah Heep. XD

For the ending, if I were to make it a happy ending, at least mention all those that have died...

Personally, as someone who's religious, I'm getting really pissed at the religious people who freak out every time there's something like His Dark Materials or The DaVinci Code. Seriously, people have different views, is it that hard to deal with it?

Though I'll admit, The DaVinci Code was a crappy book. And Dan Brown probably just wrote about religious controversy for the sole purpose of making a ton of money.

Reading Drivers Handbook, Uglies, The Golden Cup, and Persepolis 2.

I find a good acid test for religious people who may be overly insecure about people who don't believe in the same thing they do is this: do they find the Flying Spaghetti Monster amusing (they're okay) or a mortal insult (they're not)?

Damn right he did.

I too am upset with the"banning" of literature, unless it is nothing but pure slander.

It's pretty easy to distinguish.

Yes, well the Church thinks the Golden Compass is slander.

The Gospel According to Biff is even more sacrilegious to anybody who's really uptight. And funny.

Wait a minute, the Index of Forbidden Books was abolished in the 1960s...never mind.

Reading my AP Euro book for my homework.

I don't have a problem with the message, I just think it's a crappy book. Liked Angels and Demons though.
