Book Discussion
Nah, I think Sherlock is better. Hercule Poirot comes close though.
I was reading GoF yesterday. Then I got bored, so I left it. I wish I had a good book to read.

"I like quoting Einstein. Know why? Because nobody dares contradict you." - Studs Terkel.

Recently finished:
Change of Heart - Jodi Picoult
Catcher in the Rye - J.D.Salinger
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

I'm now about half-way through Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn; pretty awesome book so far.
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.
How was Catcher in the Rye?

I actually read the book twice in the last week. The first time I just read it quickly and didn't really like it - the book just seemed irritating and without a good plot. This seemed a little odd seeing as it's one of those classics, so I read up on some of the themes and went back to the book again. The amount of details etc that came through the second time was mind-blowing.

So what I'm getting at with my little rambling story is that I think the book is really good, but you have to be prepared to take it kind of slow and appreciate the details with some analysis.

Very true. You must take in all the details and realize that this isn't just a story where everything is given to you on the surface of the page - reading between the lines is a very vital skill.

It's an overrated skill, don't bother with it. Why are we talking in italics?

No that's not overrated - Inheritance is. =P

And I dunno why mine turned into italics. I don't remember coding it...

^OVERRATEDOVERRATEDOVERRATED.

Reading a chinese book called The Dream of Ding Village. It's about the blood trade that led to an AIDS epidemic in a rural Chinese village. The imagery in the book is creepy and really beautiful.

Blarg. The only character I liked when I read it was Murtagh. He had semi-depth. And even then he was merely a springboard into my fangirl fantasies.

And as for reading, does the audiobook of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo count? It was pretty good, but then again I don't know how it would hold up if I was physically reading it and not in a car for about 12 hours.

Blah character depth. I don't notice that stuff anyway. The story is awesome.
Number 4 needs to come out. Or at least be given an actual release date T___T

Inheritance... :-/
What to say? I mean, who doesn't like dragons and all?
But it's just another fantasy themed book with no outstanding characters, and the story is not what I'd call original.
So, yes, it's overrated.

ORIGINALNESS IS IRRELEVANT TO AWESOMENESS.

A book can be awesome without being original, but Eragon isn't awesome. Why would you want to read about some raging sociopathic hero and a 'villian' who wants TAX?!

I'm reading Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex. Just got the latest two books. Can't get through the first chapter already. *tosses aside*

I suppose yáll know that CP is planning on more books? According to him, he has completely planned and outlined approximately six other books. He also said that future compositions may revisit Alagaesia but from a different perspective.

Let's hope that writing's better.

Sorry to burst your bubble DC, but at the pace CP's going he won't even get half of those done in his lifetime.

Reading graphic novels and career books, sorry but Solomon's not getting read 'till I've done my exams; I want a full day or so to myself to read through it.
