It's looking for a lot of things other than the Higgs Boson. Even not finding the Higgs is an interesting result. I'm confident there will be many interesting discoveries.

As all scientists are humans and not machines, and they do make mistakes to their human nature...I'm not sure I'm trusting those crazy researchers who said that there's not going to be a lot of problems with the LHC. Who knows?

Well if any of you want to make a bet that the world will end because of CERN, then I am happy to bet that the world wont end because of them. :D

went to a talk on it today...was pretty good and quite entertaining.

So rather than trust the people who have studied this for their entire lives, know exactly what's going on, and wouldn't build it if they thought there was even the slightest chance of it breaking anything, you would trust the crazy conspiracy nuts who think things are going to go wrong?

In other words: A long boring wait :P

And no.
They'll find it within a day or two, but the scientific community won't believe it until it's backed up by evidence.

Hm...I haven't thought of that. But even though the scientists have been working on this project for a while, nobody's always perfect. Just saying though.

May go up to three years? Then 3 years from now would be 2011...1 year after the planned decommissioning of the Space Shuttle. And the year I would be graduating from high school. ><
