It's looking for a lot of things other than the Higgs Boson. Even not finding the Higgs is an interesting result. I'm confident there will be many interesting discoveries.

They told us about it in homeroom today.

Everyone got real quiet, and then one guy's like "Oh shi--"

Our immediate plan was to get beers and have a grand time throughout the school, but then they told us it already happened. :P
As all scientists are humans and not machines, and they do make mistakes to their human nature...I'm not sure I'm trusting those crazy researchers who said that there's not going to be a lot of problems with the LHC. Who knows?

Well if any of you want to make a bet that the world will end because of CERN, then I am happy to bet that the world wont end because of them. :D

So rather than trust the people who have studied this for their entire lives, know exactly what's going on, and wouldn't build it if they thought there was even the slightest chance of it breaking anything, you would trust the crazy conspiracy nuts who think things are going to go wrong?

If the LHC destroys the world, I will personally eat my hat as the black hole spaghettifies me.

If you can work out a way that I could send you a live video feed while all of us and the Earth are being spaghettified (no really, it's called that! linky), then I shall do it.

Yeah I know, I love how it's a real scientific term.

I too am confident that it will find it, not certain yet as to the Higgs Boson.

Well, it's about 50/50 on whether or not it will.
Two sides: it will, it won't due to a lack of energy.
I'm just url minded today:
Super Large Hadron Collider

It should be noted (on the God Particle subject) that
"Once the supercollider is up and running, CERN scientists estimate that if the Standard Model is correct, a Higgs boson may be produced every few hours. At this rate, it may take up to three years to collect enough statistics unambiguously to discover the Higgs boson. Similarly, it may take one year or more before sufficient results concerning supersymmetric particles have been gathered to draw meaningful conclusions."

Umm.
Yes.
And no.
They'll find it within a day or two, but the scientific community won't believe it until it's backed up by evidence.

Hm...I haven't thought of that. But even though the scientists have been working on this project for a while, nobody's always perfect. Just saying though.

May go up to three years? Then 3 years from now would be 2011...1 year after the planned decommissioning of the Space Shuttle. And the year I would be graduating from high school. ><

Why's being nerds a bad thing anyway!?
