Holiday. One of my friends from uni is in Hong Kong teaching this year, and I'd promised I'd visit her. She wanted to go to Japan on her spring break, so I went with her. And it was awesome.

Aw, that's so cool. I'd love to go there, perhaps in a few years (my girlfriend's grandparents live in Hong Kong).

Anyway, back on topic, this is just perfect.

I read a short story like that where the scientist create an incredibly detailed model of the world, moving in real time. So they zoom in on themselves in the model and they see through a hole in the ceiling, tiny little white coated people gazing into a model and the tiny little white coated people in that model are looking into one of their own. And then they look up and they see a tiny black square in the ceiling.

So Oscar Pistorius has allegedly murdered his girlfriend. Some say he mistook her for an intruder. Personally, I don't think he has a leg to stand on.

Anyone following the MH370 story? I was totally uninterested to start off with, but things have been getting weirder and weirder. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/m ... dian-ocean Latest is apparently they think it might be on the Kyrgyzstan/China border. Which seems pretty nuts. Long way to go, past a bunch of nations with a lot of incentive to be paying attention to their airspace...

That seems ridiculously unlikely. I love how the Indian military is like ``our radar may or may not have been turned on``

Anyway, isn`t it most likely that plane just lost contact and crashed into the ocean?

According to the satellite angle measurements, it could have gone south, heading for the Southern Ocean, whereupon it would have run out of fuel and crashed at some point, but that raises the question of *why*. If it did go that way, the chances of it ever being found are minuscule, I fear; too big a search space of deep ocean. There's a lot more plausible reasons for it to have gone north over land, and a lot more chance of finding it, but you'd expect *somebody* to have picked it up at some point.

Maybe it's a terrorist attack, and they try to land the plane on sea, tie it to a ship, and bring it away
