And Aero is what?
wrote:wow, you have faster speeds, what a reason to change to macs :rolleyes the only trouble is the programs that would have been slow to start up take no time at all the start up on a mac because they don't work on macs. Very silly, you should have just upgraded to a much better PC.
I never said faster speeds was the only reason we changed to Mac...The fact that I had to formatt our computer and reinstall XP about once a month was the biggest factor. And there really isn't any software that I use, that doesn't have a Mac equivilent.

:D It's got tons of compatability issues- no sound hardware acceleration, missing or unreleased drivers, various prorams and games that do not run or just regularly crash. Basically, like I said before, it's Xp with a facelift...

Aero? The Vista desktop theme? The one which wants 1 GB RAM and a decent Graphix card? Looks good.

Vista has the next generation of Direct X, #10. Have you seen Crysis? It can bitch slap any PS3 game. Besides that, you get the next generation of pretty much everything. IE 7, Windows media player 11...

The software and games that regularly crash are pretty much outdated. Recent releases and patched ones don't crash. And besides, Vista is young, We'll get all the Drivers by Summer.

So it's basically Direct X 10, IE 7, and a ram eating desktop? Oh, and widgets?...I mean Gadgets.

BTW, On Aero, I've heard that OS X has a better desktop, and it's been out for 5 years...

Ignore the Microsoft spin.

Aero is full 3D, OS X is not. Aero therefore, owns.

Aero is crap. Seriously. Guy I know had it running for a month without even noticing it was on. You want Ubuntu Linux with Beryl. Looks better with lower performance hits.

As for crashes, take Dark Messiah for an example of a recently released game which crashes without fail on EVERY Vista system it's run on once you reach about the third level. Or Windows Live Messenger, which refuses to work for certain user accounts on Vista.

However, it's still better than Mac OS.

Moral of the story: Go get Linux.

They don't...We've had ours for about 3 months, and It's crashed once...And that might not have even been it's fauld because my brother was on it, and he always manages to screw things up.

I've had about that level of crashing on my laptop, and every time it crashes a quick maintenance scan (registry mechanic/adaware/NOD32/CrapCleaner) keeps it running happily for the next 3 months or more. I've had more than that on my desktop, but only cos a) I upgraded every single bit of hardware without reinstalling Windows and b) there's this one game I play that ALWAYS crashes, cos it's crap.
It's made by the US Army. There's a surprise.

(It's actually quite good when it works, though, and free)

It's a recruitment tool. It's apparently been rather successful, too. Of course, since I'm British, there's not much risk of me signing up with the US Army.

or the british one. i dont think many people who are going to get more than a C in their GCSEs is going to join up without going to uni

edit: that reminds me, the british are getting so desperate they are considering letting my friend (predicted grade E) in to train as an engineer. they say you are meant to get C or above

Yes, but which uni? Some take higher grades than others. And bear in mind that not all engineering courses will actually give you the qualifications you need to work as an engineer in the UK. Silly? Yes.
