For all that it annoys me how ridiculously many music game titles there are...

...frigging keyboards. DO WANT. And Bohemian Rhapsody on the soundtrack.

1. Not enough songs actually have keyboards IN them.

2. It can't be simplified for the dumb and still be able to play the songs.

3. There probably is a three, I just can't think of it right now.

1) They say most of the songs on the built-in setlist will have keyboard tracks. There are a fair few songs in the back catalogue that would seriously benefit from adding keyboard tracks. And adding keyboards opens up a whole load of new songs from heavily keyboard-driven genres like my beloved symphonic metal.

2) Watch the preview video, and be impressed. I was wondering how it could possibly be done, but that video's convinced me.

How about a Rock Band or Guitar Hero entirely devoted to Queen?

How about a Rock Band or Guitar Hero devoted entirely to the Heavy Metal genre? And ALL it's subgenres. Best. Game. Evar.

I prefer the current system, actually, where you can just grab a bunch of heavy metal DLC. There are plenty of non-metal songs I like too. It just seems like unnecessary separation.

This seems highly unlikely, since they really hate to give permission to use their songs for such marketing. Hence why none of their songs have ever been on either Rock Band or Guitar Hero. (I think).

The new version of Rock Band also adds a "pro" mode which means you're actually hitting the correct notes. Obviously this needs a new guitar controller; there's a plastic guitar type one by Mad Catz and an actual Squier Strat with the game electronics built in available to play that mode on guitar. The keyboard supports it out of the box, and you need extra cymbals for the drum kit.
I'm hoping that this increased realism such that the game does actually teach you to play will encourage reticent bands to get involved. (I know the unrealism was a specific complaint of David Gilmour of Pink Floyd's.)

Er, I don't get it. If people want realism, why don't they just learn to play a freaking guitar.

Seeing the keyboard played, it actually does look kind of cool. Unfortunately I cannot afford it, but it would be nice to actually be halfway decent at one of those games for a change. :D

Because real guitars don't come with infinitely patient backing bands.
(For the record here, I play large amounts of both the real thing and Rock Band.)

Not particularly impressed. Most of the stuff there I'm interested in is already in the Rock Bands or as DLC or in the case of Bohemian Rhapsody, confirmed for Rock Band 3. (And it'd be rubbish without keyboard anyway.)

Yes. It's a recession dontcha know, and a sequel to a successful property is a much surer money maker than an unknown, so all the dull sequels get funded by the corporate overlords and there's sod-all new, inventive, exciting stuff.

Yeah, the poor industry execs. Life is rough. XD

Seriously, the lack of new ideas is making me sad. Except for Toy Story 3 because childhood nostalgia ftw.
