The Ring Of Solomon Discussion

General Discussion
The Church'll only object if it's significantly popular. And only the dumb people who don't realize it's just fiction. Did see Amulet on a banned books list once for the whole demons thing, but that was it.

The most idiotic had to be for To Kill a Mockingbird. They said it was racist because it had the word 'nigger' in there. Which goes to show they couldn't have...er...comprehended the plot.

As far as the number of sensible people greatly exceed the nutters, we have hope. I think that is the case so far.

Nah. The apathetic trumps all. And not necessarily because they're worthless people, since many have issues of abusive conditions, starvation, etc. Which probably goes back to a certain pessimism about the human race.

Yes, I am =p.
I honestly think the world is getting better. And history has proved again and again that only centrist policies and sensible ideas (because humans, in general, support them) stand through the times. Nutters will come and go but will seldom make a lasting impact.

Yeah, apathism due to that and some lack of concern.

Would there be any RoS release parties anywhere? I know it is quite unlikely, but some bookstores might...

Oi. Global Warming says hi.
=p.
Okay, an impact made as long as human race survives. How ever long that is.

Well, considering they didn't complain about having a demon as the main protagonist or any of the occult imagery, I don't think they care.

Apparently, in Islamic mythology Solomon really did have djinn servants.

I think the world was pretty much darn evil before about 1800, got nicer (seemed like little kids could pretty much walk through the woods without fear 1900-1950) and is now getting worse again. Well the times might be off but I think the world went from chaos to goodness and is going back again. Latley Ive honestly been scared people will lose their sense in decades to come.

Er... Cover was just revealed on the official Facebook page. Apologies, on iPod touch at the moment.

And now, not.

You're confusing Solomon with Ptolemy. Solomon was king of ancient Israel. :ninja4:

DO WANT.

Probably an American thing, however.

That is an awesome cover.

The Facebook page is run by the publicity department for the UK publisher, so I'd guess it's the UK cover.

Okay, the cover is out here. I should have opened and seen all the pages first. It was hoping to much to think y'all wouldn't have seen it =p.

I love the cover! It is way better than the old one. And that shine in the word Bartimaeus...<3.

Definitely appears to be the UK cover. The Phoenix thing is clearly in the style of the American ones.

As for objections with the church concerning the nature of the books, it is typically post-menopausal church ladies/soccer moms and/or preachers who haven't actually read the books in question that have a problem with it. For example, they might go bananas when it is suggested that a book like this might be represented in a private school library, but don't mind when books like the Golden Compass go in.

Most other Christians don't really care. Plenty enjoy the books with gusto and laud them as their favorites. Frankly, to be offended by the use of the word "demon" is foolishness incarnate--not just because the definition of the word and its use in context is completely different from a spirit of hell, but also because the point of such a word is to illustrate the attitudes of the nasty humans dragging them out of their home in the first place.

Oh true. My bad.

Either way, it still doesn't quite look like ancient Isreal.
