Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit were really boring in the beginning but they got better in the middle.

Yeah, slow openers, but they get a lot bettter.

I do recommend you watch the LotR films at least - they cut a lot of the boring bits, and are extremely well done.

Keys to the Kingdom seems to be an awesome series...I've only read "mister monday" so far but I'm in love xD It's very original: with the whole seven deadly sins, 7 holy traits, 7 days of the week, etc. :D Prometheus! :D
Don't yell shark in a theatre and fire at the beach! :D

Garth Nix has an amazing imagination. I read a story in Across the Wall that was a western/Hitler story. I thought it was pretty darn awesome.

I read The Lord of The Rings, but only got about halfway thorugh The Hobbit. I liked the Lord of the rings a lot better.
I've never been much into Garth Nix's work.
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

Keys to the Kingdom are a pretty good series. I've got the lot so far. Friday wasn't as good as the others, if you ask me.

Old Kingdom = Bleh
Lord of the Rings = Also Bleh
Hobbit = Meh, okay I suppose.

The Old Kingdom is pretty bad. I managed to read through the first one (with difficulty due to boringness) and got halfway through the second one before giving up.

Lord of the Rings are pretty much the same. I read the Fellowship, and got halfway in the Two Towers. I can easily say that they're the most boring books I've ever read. EVER.

Typical Lord of the Rings paragraph:

The Grass felt good between the Hobbit's toes.
Frodo thought that the grass felt good between his toes.
Frodo said to himself, 'the Grass feels good between my toes'.
Frodo broke out in Song,

'The grass feels good between my toes,
Oh, The grass feels good between my toes,
Yes, The grass feels good between my toes.'

It might be eggagerated, but bloody hell, it's the kind of thing the book does.

Thye Hobbit was alright, but it was nothing special.

I guess you have to really like a certain class of fantasy to enjoy some of the books in the genre...

"You belong in Gryffindor,
where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

The Hobbit and the Fellowship of the Ring bored me. I really enjoyed TTT, RotK and Sil though.

On topic: I stopped reading this series at Wednesday, the character of Lady Wednesday repulsed me to that extent. Monday and Tuesday were very good. Is Thursday on par with the first two?
Nothing to see here, move along.

At least. If anything, it's better.

I found Thursday more like Monday and Tuesday.

I personally found Friday the most intresting....

You really have to enjoy High Fantasy to like LotRs. And excuse the dammed small fonts.

You count LoTR as High Fantasy?
Nectanebo Foliot
Well, it is, isn't it? A High Fantasy book is just a fantasy book that's set in a fictional universe. And Lord of the Lings is set in Middle Earth. That makes it a High Fantasy, right?

I never heard of Lord of the Lings....sorry, couldn't resist.

Well, it's also considered one of the foundational modern fantasy books by some people.

I need to post something similar to the grass one. It looks like something from a baby's storybook.

The grass feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The grass is green. It feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The grass is soft. It feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The soft, green grass feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The hobbit’s toes feel the soft, green grass. Gollum is sitting next to the hobbit. Gollum feels the grass between his toes. The grass is soft and green. Gollum is feeling the soft, green grass between his toes next to the hobbit who is feeling the soft, green grass between his toes. “This grass is soft and green,” said the hobbit. “My precious,” replied Gollum. “This grass is soft and green and it tickles my toes.” The grass feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The grass is tickly. It feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The soft, green, tickly grass feels good between the hobbit’s toes. The hobbit’s toes feel the soft, green, tickly grass. Gollum is sitting next to the hobbit. Gollum feels the grass between his toes. The grass is soft and green and tickly. Gollum is feeling the soft, green, tickly grass between his toes next to the hobbit who is feeling the soft, green, tickly grass between his toes. “This grass is soft and green and tickly,” said the hobbit. “My precious…” replied Gollum. “This grass is soft and green and it tickles my toes.”

“I am sleepy,” said Mr. Monday, “I need to sleep.” “You need to sleep, Mr. Monday,” said the Nithling, “you are very sleepy.” “I am very sleepy,” said Mr. Monday, “I very much need to sleep.” “You very much need to sleep, Mr. Monday,” said the Nithling, “you are very sleepy.” “Of course I am sleepy,” said Mr. Monday. “I need plenty of rest if I’m to write my will tomorrow, seeing as I’m going to be stabbed in my head and chest.” “You mean Dame Primus, sir?” asked the Nithling. “No,” scowled Mr. Monday.

^IAWTC. What's the point of the second paragraph? Garth Nix doesn't write like that.

Neither authors write like that.

Tolkien wrote like that.
