The Great Bartiforums Re-read 2013

General Discussion
Exactly as it sounds. By popular demand, and the fact that the regular members never seem to talk about the books anymore, we're re-reading the series starting with the original trilogy, and then Ring of Solomon if people don't get disinterested and the thread dies (probably a 50/50 chance). And I'm tying it into my Night Police game so yeah (although you don't need to be in it to do this, and vice versa).

It's just like one of those stuffy stereotypical book clubs with tea and finger sandwiches, only this one has good books (although no food, sorry). So come join us!

(I'm thinking something like a chapter a week, and since there are 44 in Amulet alone that should keep us going for awhile. But we can change up the format if anyone has any suggestions)

____________

This week: Bartimaeus 1

I'd kinda be inclined to go a bit faster, or it'll take us years to get through the whole series, but I dunno how much other people are prepared to read.

Everyone okay with two days each then?

A chapter a week is too less. Probably one in two or three days ought to be fine.
Though I doubt I would participate. Too busy. >>

Can we send out a mass email? Maybe we can round up a few more people for the revival.

And we should tell Stroud so he can join us if he wants =]

You can always catch up if you get a couple of hours free.

Two days/chapter sounds fine to me.

I object this one. Why? Because I only have the translated version of the trilogy and it's a bit different than the english version, however I have both english and translated version of RoS, so I suggest you to do the re-read from the RoS first

Uh...I haven't bought the books yet...

But if we're doing this, I suggest a faster pace. Especially considering how some chapters are far longer than others. If memory serves me right, the third or fourth chapter is about one and a half pages.
I may not have thought this through properly...

If you and n&b have Skype I could read it to you. :P

Well it was only ever intended to be a bonus thing. The problem with using RoS is I still haven't read it; although I suppose this would be as good a time as any.

How's that for an idea, since RoS is technically the first one? I don't think any of us have read it all chronologically yet?

...But if we just want to continue, it's 2 today...

I have no idea what I'm doing, people.

I'll PM you the PDF tonight.

Also, we should try to revive one old thread a week or something and get the discussion going.

Making an audio book version is a great idea! :D
Thanks Fuzz, but I think I might have trouble understanding your accent. I am sure I will get most words, but definitely not all. >>
I could do what Sent said. Catch up whenever I am free and join the discussion then.
Do you have all the four ebooks Luciene?

Good point. Too many 'aboots' and 'ehs.' :P

Hey, can I get a PDF? I own the books, but I'm determined this semester to spend as little time at home as possible, so the less books I have the lug around the better.

I never noticed this before, but it seems that in AoS Baritmaeus hints that he'd been summoned by a British magician recently before Nat summoned him. Obviously this book has a few continuity errors, like Bartimaeus is apparently an epic 14th level djinni, but I wonder who could have summoned him?
Huh, never noticed. Looking for it now. Unlikely anyone we know of, but it's interesting.

CHAPTER 3.

Maybe I should attempt some fanart...

Sooooo... do we discuss the chapters that we've re-read?

For instance, I love the way the book opens, just cause it goes so far to build up the suspense and the evil-ness, and then Bartimaeus just pops that balloon, and it's hilarious. :D

THERE WAS A BALLOON?

Anyways, I find the book is a lot more better paced and structured than Ring of Solomon. Stroud seemed to have lost his touch with RoS.

(a metaphorical balloon :P )

And I agree. RoS was a bit of a comedown
Now I'm imagining the plot of Up, only with Bartimaeus and Nathaniel... It's brilliant.

Chapter 4, anyone?
