The 7 Planes

No, my memory's just that good.
I'm actually kind of disappointed, the tense of the whole thing is wrong.
Plus, I have re-read the series... idk how many times now.
GE's the least, so more of it's fuzzy than the other two.

Let's sharpen it up then.

Near the beginning of GE, Barty describes his master in Prague and mentions in a footnote that comparing masters is like comparing facial spots.

What was said in that footnote?
"Give me back my face!" "Look at that sunset. Like blood and melted cheese."

Umm...
Some are worse, some better, but none strike one's fancy?
I'm pretty adept at remember how people speak.
Cuz all I really remember was the vague thought.
I'm listening to music, so tell me if I'm right.
I don't wanna cheat :/

You caught the key words, but you missed a concept.

"Comparing masters is rather like comparing facial spots: some are worse than others, but even the best don't exactly tickle your fancy. This one was the twelfth Czech magician I'd served. He wasn't overly cruel, but he was a bit sour, as if lemon juice ran in his veins. He was also thin-lipped and pedantic, obsessed with his duty to the Empire."

Danke, surprised it took so long.
So, anybody have a question on the 7 Planes?

Not that weird a question. I thought of it when I was reading and all I can say is IDK!
Heh
Its weird when Nauda says "I see you Bartimaeus!" Doesn't he say that? I dont have any of the books though I'd loooove to. Probably sees him on another plane
Yes, a plane higher than the 7th one. Cause Barty couldn't see Faquarl. Has anyone asked Stroud about the total no. of planes?

I believe (and I'm sorry if I'm interupting a covnersation of anything-I'm new...) that physical activities such as digging, talking, writingm etc. are contained on the first plane, and then most run of the mill supernatural occurances on planes two through four. Above that, all entites can no longer (based on what is revealed in the books-Bartimaeus often says "my guise extended to the fourth plane...") alter their form, HOWEVER, there ar eno physical objects.
"I am Bartimaeus! I am Sakhr al-Jinni, N'gorso the Mighty and the Serpent of Silver Plumes! I have rebuilt the walls of Uruk, Karnak and Prague. I have spoken with Solomon. I have run with the buffalo fathers of the plains. I have watched over Old Zimbabwe till the stones fell and the jackals fed on its people."

There are several instances of spirits altering their forms up to sixth plane. I do like the theory that the corporeal world ceases to be present on higher planes, though that would surely mean spirits would be unable to hide on the higher planes - they'd be able to see other spirits etc through walls and stuff on high planes, and there's no evidence they can do that.

But-the question is: is there any evidence they can't (see each other through walls?) The problem is, we only see through Bartimaeus' eyes, and from what I understand, he sort of low on the totem pole. Certainly Farqual knew Bartimaeus by sight, as did Jabor.

Barti may be not a massively powerful spirit, but he can see up to the seventh plane (on which no spirits we encounter are able to hide their true form). He gets into numerous battles in buildings - there would be numerous opportunities for vision or even attacks through higher planes with no walls to get in the way, which never happens.

Would a djinni attack be physical (first plane) or magical (seventh plane)? I would think it would be a first-plane act (magicians are seen using Infernos) but I could be wrong

If magicians appear to be using attacks like Inferno, they have a bound or hidden spirit which is actually generating the attack.
