Make Sent change it to Film.
Or, ya know, whatever you terribly creative souls can come up with.
To Sent - Niiice.
So bad, but so good.

They came up with some actually crowd logic for LotR to make the armies look real.
Awesome, awesome, AND six years old (or seven or eight, depending on the film).

There's probably never gonna be one in any year...is this good or bad...
Good. Very very good.
Sarcasm?
If not, reason.

I suppose since we're already getting a graphic novel and a new book, a movie so soon would just be spoiling us...

*wants to be spoiled*

I don't think Apollo's being sarcastic.

I Am Serious. I film adaption of our beloved books would doubtlessly be inaccurate and would distort our (or at least my) views of the Bartimaeus Universe and the characters. There are simply to many good things that the movie industry could screw up, and I don't want to face that disappointment.

Still, it gives the books publicity. It might be bad for us, but good for the books.

Blah. I don't know where the idea comes from that an adaptation has to follow it's source material to the letter.

I think a movie might be fun.

A movie would be fun, but you'd have to look at it as a realist (Apollo). It's obviously not going to be anything near as good as the books, and you can rest assured that the "source material" will not be followed to the letter. If you expect the movie to do the books justice, you'll be disappointed. We should just accept that, however terrible the film is, the books aren't going to be changed; and the movie will ultimately just gain more publicity for the books.
When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney.

Something symbolic in that. It's what fake freedom does for you.

It all depends on the control the author has.
Better be better than WWZ - Brooks has said he has zero control over the thing. Grr.

That's what I mean. It doesn't have to, just as long as it follows the same plot and has the same message. And they don't do a crappy job of it, like some recent fantasy adaptations I can mention where it looks like they didn't put much effort into it. Some things just don't translate well onto film, and someone who works in film would know how to do it better than someone who writes novels.

If you think that greater author involvement always equals better adaptation, please watch Maximum Overdrive.
Uh... Oops. Can I get an admin to fix the quotes, Edit still doesn't work for me.

While true, this doesn't mean we can't be upset about it.
The Men Who Stare at Goats is going to be horrible as a movie. DAMNIT, it's NONFICTION, why ruin a great book?

Star Wars was low budget.

So was District 9. One would think that budget heavily affects sci-fi and fantasy movies above all, but there have been many good ones.
