Tallest Buildings

Do you know that if all the world's population of humans moved to Texas, they could all live somewhat comfortably? Well, I suppose more like Canada.
Just some people are little to scared of the cold, the creepy crawlies, etc.
And with tall buildings, it could work out well, even in the cold/heat. Good insulation, energy saving, and it kinda has people learning to work well together.
My mind has gone a bit cynical...

Indian population growth is expected to decline starting around 2015.

Rise in living standards does not mean bigger houses. Ask the people in any metro, particularly Tokyo. And suburbs can grow only so much big...

All population is expected to decline rapidly. It goes to an extremely high number, say, 9 billion, and then drops to 3 billion.

@Luciene: It would be even more disgusting when you know what it really means. ;)

Rapid? Nope.

9 billion & then drop to 3 billion? Are you sure? I doubt the world population would ever cross 7.5 billion. Or ever drop beyond 5 billion.

Anyway, you got be interested too. What does your sig mean?

World population is already over 6.5 billion, and it's growing at about half a billion every five years. We're going to hit 7.5 billion in ten to fifteen years.

And Nero's 'inside joke' looks like one of those "tee hee he looks like Hitler" kinda sigs." Boring.

No it's not that simple Mwamba. Unless you're interested in a bit of hockey, I don't think you'll actually want to know.
Why am I a unicorn? Why not a...a wolf?! :P

And if populations rise high enough, there will be famine, more poverty, etc. and it's possible that mass deaths will happen.

And someone had a link in their sig that had a webpage dedicated to desturctions of the earth...didn't check it but use your imagination.
That would be me. The whole site is pretty cool actually.

And returning to my point: It doesn't matter if the population is going to start decreasing because 'till that happens, houses are going to keep being built. And developers won't care if they're building it over farmland or not, they'll care about making a profit. So to stop even more of the planet's small amount of farmland from being torn up, tall buildings should be built for more living space. Plus it concentrates more of the city into one area, which would save on fuel costs needed to get from place to place (why drive somewhere to get groceries, when there is a supermarket in the building).

Exit mundi is better.

A Skyscraper requires more resources than half a dozen apartment complexes. The water presure required to supply water to the upper floors is immense. The power taken by those nifty elevators and ACs is immense. The construction and reenforment costs are immense.

Governmental policies more often than not stop people tearing up prime farmland. If people start going hungry because of some country houses, el presidente' will not survive long.

Good point.

I still stand by what I said about the farmland, though. Most people won't blame food shortages on development.

True, they'll probably blame it on everything else first.

I still like Skyscrapers.

I believe they're blaming it on biofuels, global warming and high fuel prices at the moment.

Eh, Bush is blaming it India's and China's growing appetites. The rest of the world is blaming the Americans destroying a significant Corn crops for the whole useless Biofuels deal. Food prices are stabilizing, ironically due to India's and China's big Crop yeild. But still, "A Hungry man is a Angry man."

Well said.
It should be noted that the eco-yuppies that were so eager for Corn-based ethonol shut up reaal fast when people realized it's as harmful to us as Gasoline is.
Environment's first, unless it hurts, then ooohh noo, we need gas back.
I'm happy Biodeisel actually works, and doesn't hurt us.

Hydrogen fuel cells are brilliant... if you can figure out a way of producing said hydrogen without requiring massive amounts of energy, which defeats the point slightly.

Yeah...if only there was some material to withstand constant amounts of Hydrogen energy while using that energy to good use.
Diamonds...? Seeing as they are the toughest material... :-/
