Tallest Buildings

And Yet 99% of buildings from those times were mud huts.

Your both wrong.... Tall buildings exist because space within urban hubs is extremely more valuable than space in the rural hinterland. It's a question of infrastructure, you can build outwards but the costs end up multiplying: Roads, Cables, Entertainment, Markets.

If all of us still lived in mud huts, there would be no global warming.

If all of us lived in mud huts, the many disadvantages would probably outweigh the one advantage of no global warming, which might come anyway.

We were discussing whether we were justified in building skyscrapers, right?

And you say yes...proving my point.

I never said no... If they were no justified then their won't be so many of them. Contary to popular belief, Capitalism is not stupid, just short sighted. But there are plenty of alternatives to Skyscrapers.

I wasn't aware of speaking to the contrary.

That's why places like Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong have so many.
new York has them for a slightly different reason: Office space instead of Living space, as in the aforementioned cities.

Is there actually any Nudity in those beaches? And isn't Canada supposed to be cold 8 months a year?

Yea...there's one about 20 min from my house. But I wouldn't call it a "beach". The lake is disgusting and polluted.

Where we live, it isn't that cold. Like Seattle and parts of the US are farther north than us.

Stonehenges are burial grounds? That's what come in the newspapres a couple of days ago. And all these years I was thinking it's just another fancy monument built by early man...

Most fancy monuments served some purpose other than just a monument :P
Hey, I know. I thought I would mention your statement in my previous post & then decided against it in the last moment. It's just that I never dreamt it was used as a burial ground. There are no graves & those pillars seem more like a gateway then anything else.

Why do we assume that there has to be a point to everything that we do? Maybe they were put up because some people said "Let's see if we can". Sounds like humans to me.
Yeah, it's probably an ego thing.

I don't really see much wrong with tall buildings. The world's population is increasing alarmingly so, unless people want to start living in smaller houses, we'll need more living space. We can't keep building on farmland because we need farmland to feed everyone (unless someone has a different idea, which would probably take years to be feasible).

Urban buildup is never going to take up too much land. As for the population, well Europe has shown the future. If current rate of devlopment continues all major countries are going to see their populations start to decline in the next 20 years. Heck, China has already peaked.

You are forgetting India. China is much larger & the one - child policy would curb the growing population soon. It has pretty much stabilized nowadays. But I don't see anything like that happening in India. And life expectancy is increasing...

It might never take up too much land, but only a small fraction of the world's land is suitable for growing crops, and developers will build on that farmland if it is convenient for them. Even if the populations of many countries decline, standards of living will continue to be raised for people in developing countries, which more often than not means bigger houses both for necessity and the fact that people like big houses (not me, it's such a waste of space).

Edit: I'm an imp now ^_^
