simple poll : who do you love and hate and why?

General Discussion

Which one's your fave and why?

Bartimaeus
Nathaniel
Kitty
I voted for Bartimaeus as my favourite character. I didn´t answer the "hating poll" as all three are unique in a way and I think none of them deserves that title (the character I hate). :D
"A dozen more questions occurred to me. Not to mention twenty-two possible solutions to each one, sixteen resulting hypotheses and counter-theorems, eight abstract speculations, a quadrilateral equation, two axioms, and a limerick. That's raw intelligence for you."

why ISN'T Ptolemy in the list???
I mean, I liked him. Not more than Bart, obivously.
Since every1 noes the vote 4 most fav character is Bart, so that's out of question.

Coming 2 the least fav.:
well, I liked all the 4 charaters in this order : Bart the modest >Ptolemy > Nathaniel > Kitty
I don't actually despise Kitty. I didn't like her in the 2nd part, I admit. But in PG I began to feel almost the same likeness for her as for Nathaniel.
But usually, my focus throughout the trilogy was on Bart, and when the narrative shifted from third to first, I would literally start laughing even before reading it
BART...he's THE MAN!....Oops, I mean he's the DIJJINI!

well, ok, so Bartimaeus we all know and love, because of his attitude and footnotes. I have to pick him as my favorite.

But as for Nathaniel, I can't say I like him. I mean, I liked Nathaniel when he was a young boy, not when he became Mr.John Mandrake, the overworked and underappreciated minister that I hardly ever recognized as the same boy who outwitted Bartimaeus with a tin of rosemary so long ago. He changed so dramatically from the first and last books, I wouldn't recognize him unless it were for those sudden outbursts: like when he decided to dismiss barti at the PM's party instead of just getting the info and letting him die. Otherwise, he would just be a typical magician.

As for Kitty, i like how arrogant she is, but she sometimes doesn't think things through. For example, when they raided Gladstone's tomb: Didn't she think that there was going to be something other than a pestilence guarding him? And when she followed bartimaeus to the Other Place: how could she think she was like ptolemy? ptolemy was so kind to him, and kitty wasn't.
Becuase I dislike them both, I vote none for hate the most.
It's not so much Kitty that I hate, it's just that I got a really bad first impression of her from the 1st book. Come on, what kind of person beats up little kids in the back alley???

Kitty does. Actually, a bunch of people do, but i wouldn't consider 12-year old Nathaniel to be a little kid. And plus, it wasn't kitty that did that. It was Fred, I think. or nick. Not sure.
Yeah, Kitty didn't beat Nathaniel. And when she came, she stopped them from slicing his neck. (At least, they offered to kill Nathaniel. Jokingly, most likely.)

Hopefully it was jokingly, if not...the Resistance really was vicious (but I personally doubt it.)

:djinni: Bartimaeus #1 no brainer

:wizard: Nat #2 I knew he was kind at heart from the first book so I looked past the later attitude and voila the kind person shone through in the end

:ninja4: Kitty #3 I didn't hate her I just like the others better

Well, that's definitely true.
Barti's my favorite. No explanations needed, I think. :D

Nathaniel's my least favorite of the three. I just don't like the person he became. I like kitty more than him because Kitty never forgets her purpose: she has a steeled determination and a strong attitude that even the strongest Marid does not posses. Nathaniel joined the filthy ranks of the government and became hungry for power, even if he already knows what power can do to people. But I don't hate him, I just don't like his behavior, especially by taking Barti for granted. But he redeemed himself in the last part of Ptolemy's gate, so no prob. :D
Bartimaeus is my favorite, of course. He's 2nd only to the footstool in terms of wittiness. (We should really have The Footstool Trilogy written sometime soon. :P )

Kitty's my least favorite. I like her too, but Nathaniel won me in the last chapter. That one chapter was enough to redeem him from all that stuff he did earlier, I think. Hey, he prevented our beloved Bartimaeus from dying, right? ^_^

By the way, hi calliope05!
I shall spread your vile essence across this hall like...um, like margarine. A very thick layer of it...
Bartimaeus is my favorite! :D LOL! I just finished the series not long ago! I'm going to have to say that Kitty is my least favorite.
Nat>Bart>Kitty=Ptolemy for me... i know i've already posted something on this topic, but i just had something to add. Ptolemy was sweet and nice and all, but idk, maybe he was a little too perfect and didn't seem to have any flaws... as for Kitty, I think the reason nobody likes her is partly because she came in so late in the series. and she's also described with a positive light by both of the other main characters while in reality she's a bit of a hypocrite and a little too violent (ok maybe i shouldn't be the one to accuse her...).
don't hate me, but i didn't really get attached to Barti either before reading RoS, i mean, he was funny and everything, but maybe it was his attitude towards Nat... but than i reread the series, and i figured out that Barti was actually criticizing Nat for the heck of it and really Nat meant a lot to him, but he just didn't want to admit it...
but i was with Nathaniel from the beginning :)
