Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is very good, and very complex. I loved those footnotes, they were so long, but interesting.

I will never forget Opal Deception... never.

Because it sucked. Big time. Don't read Artemis, you'll be crushed at the end.

Why didn't ya like it? Besides my favorite character getting killed like 10 pgs. into the book, i liked it.

it lacked the zing, a villain that actually was believable and a fluid pot. It was pretty forced.

You're right..it did suck. Artemis wasn't Artemis, the book was boring and without any smart story, and I hate Opal Koboi...

I didn't think it was awful, but certainly not as good as the other Artemis books.

True. Hey after three books I'd be running out of ideas too. :gladstone:
I predict that Artemis is going to become some sort of Mary-Sue character. (Gary-Stu?) The future is bleak. :(

Artemis fowl is over, It was a quateret. And, no, Opal Deception was seriously lacking and sub standard.

And running out of ideas is no excuse, why didn't he end it as a triology?

I've never read Artemis Fowl, though I've read most of the other books mentioned here.

I have to disagree with those who think his Dark Materials were Brilliant.
Although I enjoyed the first book, The second two were really difficult to get into and at stages during them left me bored.

Garth Nix's Old Kingom Trilogy was good, but not great. I'm going to begin reading His Keys To The Kingdom series shortly.

Discworld is a brilliant funny series. I think Pratchett has produced near enough 30 books now. Where does he get his ideas from?

HMD was brilliant, actually, well written. Although it had lost it's steam at the end... apparently it was the anti christ answer to Narnia, which rather limits it's depth.

I love Pratchett, he draws his ideas from real life I suppose. Wish I could come up with a better answer.. Many of his books echo real life, and sometimes it's very in-your-face . e.g. Monstrous Regiment (has the phrase 'shock and awe' in it).

HMD was the making of the author and the unmaking of a man.

Pratchet, apparently, find Narnia to be 'Disturbing propoganda which corrupts young minds.'

Who is the man? CS Lewis? As for the comment..wow. I must really go and read the rest of Narnia.

I didn't like His Dark Materials much. I own all three books, and have only read them once. That's seriously unusual for me.

Just finished reading Priestess of the White by Trudi Canavan. Damn good.
