Probably the reason why no one's found Atlantis yet is because it doesn't actually exist.

Seriously, the only evidence we ever had to go on in the first place was something Plato mentioned a few times. That's it. If you go looking I'm sure you'll find a few islands that have sunk into the ocean, that's just how plate techtonics works. But there's nothing to suggest that Atlantis specifically wasn't just a myth or a thought exercise concocted by Plato in his writings.

I heard somewhere that he specifically states it was.
On the other hand, myths frequently have some background in history, so while it's unlikely the details are accurate, a large city being flooded out at some pre-Greek time isn't implausible.

I'm wondering where he got the name "Atlantis" from ^o)

The thing about Atlantis being "found" over and over again is that Plato's criteria apply to many different sunken island civilizations. I spent half a year in grade 8 researching Atlantis for a giant project, and there are TONS of theories, and even when you take the crackpot ones out of the scene, there are still many with logic and reasonable evidence to back them up.

That is so cool! Has anyone here ever handled an iPad?

Yeah.

It's really not that exciting.

Yeah, I know there is nothing very special about it, but I haven't seen it in real or touched it.

Alzheimer's Research Disrupted By Ridiculous Patent Dispute
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201104 ... pute.shtml
http://www.nature.com/news/2011/110405/ ... 2020a.html

I cannot adequately express in words how angry this makes me. I cannot fathom the level of sociopathic obsession with money above all else it takes to try and make money off medical research through ridiculous patent claims while misrepresenting yourself as a research organization. Interfering with scientific research in general like this is indefensible, but doing it to medical research, on a disease as horrifying as Alzheimer's, is a special kind of sickening.

Spread the word. People need to know this bollocks happens.

We all know humans can be a greedy and treacherous species, prone to bouts of bigotry, violence, and stupidity, among other things. This, however, is a new level of pitiful. To put the betterment of humanity and the potential easing of sorrow and suffering below material gain is completely in the wrong. If they want to make money, by all means, they can go ahead - I don't give a blarney heck. But they most certainly should not interfere with the good work that's being done. For that, I'm sorry, but AIA can rot in hell.

Dear the media and everybody else,
Stop calling it the bloody "God particle".
Yours,
Physicists everywhere.

Anyway.
It's certainly an interesting result, especially as there are hints of it in data from two CERN experiments and Fermilab, but don't get too excited until it's five sigma.

Building upon that ^

Error or does the Theory of Relativity need to be edited?

Verification of course will be needed but...

It's almost certainly an error. The paper is pretty damn comprehensive, but there's almost certainly something else they've missed.

Even if the result is right, it's much more likely that something is slowing photons down marginally below the true universal speed limit, rather than that high-energy neutrinos are breaking it. For example, I believe it's been demonstrated that if you shine photons through two very close metal plates they travel slightly faster, since (look up the Casimir Effect) the plates reduce the density of virtual particles created by quantum fluctuations. Neutrinos, on the other hand, wouldn't be affected since they interact so weakly, so with sufficiently high energy they might end up travelling slightly faster than photons...

The chances of this actually being serious new physics are absolutely tiny.
