i always thought the hard drive was the place you store all the information that your computer needs + more....

There's more then one hard drives for different uses.
Ex: The A: drive is dor floppy discs, the D: Drive is for Cd's, the C: Drive is where the information is stored...The list goes on and on.

My DVD drive is D:. My Cd drive is D:, and for some reason I Have a F drive. It all depends on the age/processor of the computer comp.

No no. Your hard drive is the disk drive permanently installed in your computer. CD drives, DVD drives, floppy drives etc are not hard drives.AnukSuNamon wrote: There's more then one hard drives for different uses.

Drive letters are assigned like this:
A: Primary floppy drive
B: Secondary floppy drive (back in the days before hard drives)
C: onwards are assigned to any other drives in the order that they're connected. Generally you find it gives hard disks first followed by CD/DVD drives and then other drives, but if you add a new hard disk or repartition an existing hard disk new partitions get sent to the back.
Because of general messing around like that, my desktop has:
C: Hard disk 1
D: DVD drive
E: Unassigned
F: Hard disk 2
G: Memory stick (when connected)
