There wasn't many commoners at the time either.
What are you talking about, there are tons of commoners. And Piper probably would be PM because she, being deputy head of the information ministry, would be the most senior magician left.

Something I've always found odd: Why did Stroud make Churchill a magician? He has such strong associations with WW2, I mean that's the first thing I thought of. I thought there wasn't a WW2 in the BT world. Can someone clear this up for me please? Haven't taken History since I was 14. o.o
Nothing to see here, move along.

Churchill was a Prime Minister, and all the Prime Ministers since Gladstone have, by definition, been magicians.
As for how come he's so famous, well, that's open for speculation, but it was probably crushing a big rebellion somewhere. While there could have been no WW2 since the entire of Europe was under British control, there could easily have been a rebellion or something at the time.

The British controled the balance of power, not actual power. WW2 could have happened... The British Empire against a France German Russian Alliance?

Still not technically WW2. Didn't Whitwell mention "a great uprising of 1914" somehwere? That is the date the first world war started.

Why not? It'll be a global war.

It wouldn't be a global war, because if it was, they would have mentioned it more. It would have been more than a small uprising. And they never mentioned Japan or nothing.

And France would never Russia and Germany, 'cause of Napoleon and all that stuff. Germany and Russia might unite tho, 'cause the czar and kaiser were cousins.

Why won't they? The British have the empire on which the sun never set's entire might on their backyard, that'll encourage friendship. The weak always try to gang up on the strong.

Japan was a British ally, it's mentioned. So, sort of reverse: The British control Europe, have complete control over North America and South East Asia, the other European Powers afraid of growing British power and tired of answering to then declare war, challenging British supremancy over Europe, an 'uprising' It's British Japan and maybe somebody else Against an Alliance of the Rest of Europe.

Not racist, it's about social standing. Just like Roman citizens were given the most important jobs, and the freedmen the negligible ones.

And the slaves were gong farmers... ;)

Except these "slaves" could kill their masters easily if they wrote a rune slightly wrong. But yes, empires were built in the backs of slaves, just like in real life.

Well, that is an interesting idea. very intruiging. to think that some of our leaders actually wielded magical powers is very cool lol
