Post first (answering him requires less thinking).
That's precisely why I like the Left. Their ideology matters more for them than votes. They stick for what they stand for, unlike the other parties who change the definition of 'secular' faster than you can say it. And in so many other matters(I will list it tomorrow-it's extremely funny-no time now). And they have no dynastic rule(that's a first)! And no criminals (I think there is one, but that's it).
I think that's great about India. People against the state also contest elections. Be it communist, naxalite, maoist (they were some), separatist(Sajjad Lone from J&K) etc-all contest elections. Everyone has realized that the only way to get what they want, is by joining the government & not opposing it.
If Modi becomes the Prime Minister of the country, I will run away from this country. Literally. But I don't think he would. Not everyone are Gujaratis. Many detest him & the rest are ignorant of his crimes. But if he contests, everyone will know. Hopefully, the SIT will implicate him in a case soon & throw him behind bars.

HIV is a virus containing RNA & this virus(on entering the human body)gets transformed to DNA & replicates to form many copies. So it's not like the host cell can't transform RNA into DNA. But it's not possible for RNA to join the host DNA. Viruses don't have the property of reverse transcription (as it is RNA that is needed to form proteins-not DNA). But it can be made to change by the use of some chemicals/enzyme(sorry, I forgot the name).
The gene sequence that makes a species glow is isolated from starfish (people who isolated this & used it won the Noble Prize in 2008). Now this gene sequence is introduced & joined with another DNA & if this recombinant DNA glows, it means the foreign gene sequence was accepted, right?
Hey sorry, my dad needs the comp NOW. I don't think I answered any of your question properly (I looked up now), but I will do it tomorrow.

Yeah, the Left is the perfect opposition party, but you wouldn't want them in power. They'd cripple the economy and give the middle finger to uncle Sam and then declare they've made headway agaist the 'Great Class Divide' (Capitals required)

In case you hadn't noticed, the right have managed to do that perfectly well themselves >>

And how are they having to fix it? Ah yes, with left-wing methods like bailouts and nationalisations!

Eh... The government currently in power here is socialist. Our left is Marxist Communist. Like Hardcore communist. The party's founding fathers took on the Central Reserve Paramilitary Force with homemade bows and won.

Well... they didn't lose too badly.

Anyways, the Right is done, I'd say. Tis' the era of Centrists now.

Hopefully, the Right is done. It depends a lot on Congress's performance this 15th Lok Sabha.
The Left's ideology has to change with times. I don't like what they did to West Bengal over the years, but still they deserve some credit. India Inc might celebrate their demise, but I think the Indian economy is holding strong during this recessionary period solely because of the Left's strong opposition to open-market reforms.
I wouldn't term the Congress a socialist party. Ok, might be to some extent they are (compared to the BJP). But by & far, they dumped their socialist agenda when Manmohan Singh opened the economy in 1991.
Here are some ways a party behaves when in power & when facing anti-incumbency.
When the BJP was in power between 1998-2004 & followed strong pro-market reforms, the Congress opposed it strongly forgetting that they, after all, had first introduced market-friendly reforms. They carried out a countrywide strike to protest against liberalization.
When the Congress came to power in 2004 & did what exactly the BJP did, the BJP cried foul & claimed the new government was undermining India's sovereignty & independence.
Even when it comes to foreign affairs, it's the same. When in opposition, the Congress harked back to Nehruvian 'non-alignment' whenever the BJP proposed to move closer to the US. But since they have come to power, they went so far as to sign the Indo-US nuke deal.
You don't see the Left do this. They stick to their policy irrespective of whatever happens. The other 2 are just interested in opposing whatever the other does. No ideology. The only difference between the 2 is the secular-communal thing. Nothing else.

More of an element of suprise thing really, the CRPF was a third rate force in those days: the commies waited till an Transport was along a valley and they let lose with arrows, Arrows arc you see, the CRPF guys decided to charge blindly anyway and then were (somehow) overwhelmed by a counter charge by commies wielding revolvers and swords and riding mules. The guns and AFV changed hands and thus began the Naxalbari Rebellion.

Maybe the Battle of Endor in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi wasn't so unrealistic after all...

Cute, cuddly and granting +5 to attack rolls against well-trained, heavily armed and armoured soldiers?

Eh, their attempts to hold on to towns were disastrous, though, however they managed to capture enough resources to start an insurgency, which eventually grew self sustaining, Much of the state of Chattisgarh is a battlefield these days.

Yes & the government is going the wrong way to defeat the naxalites. Salwa Judum is hated by the common people.
Anyone saw Obama's speech? Good, na? Predictable(except the Israel-Palestine issue), but his best by far.

they should send in the Army proper, not mess around with civilian militias and CRPF goons.

My exact thoughts. It ought to be an offensive, like that carried out by the Lankan army. Cause if you keep the army in there for long, waiting to weed out the naxalites & the maoist slowly, the army would be the same position it is in J&K & the north-east. Allegations of rape & torture would fly thick & you would get stories about how innocent civilians were murdered due to mistaken identities. The Sri Lankan army defeated the LTTE! It ought to be child's play for the Indian army to defeat the naxalities.

The Left isn't all that great. Yeah, I admire them for their firm adherence (atleast at the centre) to their ideology & they, as a party, have necessary qualities which are sorely lacking in the other parties, but like Post said, their party cadres are goons. They lynch their opponents, capture polling booths, terrorize people etc.

...Sri Lanka used everything from tanks to massed artillery on its own people. If the LTTE had been smart and not tried to hold ground, they would be stronger than. A counter insurgency campaign calls for nothing heavier than AFVs and the occasional helicopter gunship.

Um, that was actually a reference to the 'an hero' internet meme :P
