Honorius' nation appears to have been hit with an odd bug that fails to give you any industries - I had that when I first attempted to create my second nation. I recommend he hits the "edit nation" link on the left and chooses "reset nation", which should start it up properly with the standard three starting industries.

Asterisks for action phrases? Unacceptable. Either use italics or the - - symbols.

According to whom, exactly? Asterisks as a convention to imply action has been in use on the internet for years (not to mention they also imply bold or italic..). On the contrary, using hyphens is a very rarely seen style.
Wikipedia agrees with me, listing action under the asterisk page but not the hyphen page.
