Make it a family weekend break then. The Cotswolds are an interesting enough place to spend a weekend; there's stuff to do in Cheltenham itself too. Hell, they might even be interested in other people doing talks that weekend in the literature festival.
Authors appearing over that weekend can be found here, from that page up to page 36. Only ten pages to check. I'd have typed them all out, but there are far too many. Have a look and see if your parents might be interested in any.

i know i' ve tried google-ing jonathan stroud and haven't been able to find a site for him or any other fan sites other than bartimaeustrilogy.com.
