John would, but his inner Nat would argue and thus mess him up, Jessie here has no heart so wouldn't have anything there to hinder her.

Hey, Jessica has a conscience too! Though I think u are right about Nat messing everything up due to his inner goodness. I don't think Jessica needs to resort to dirty tricks to defeat Nat. Yes, she might play dirty if things start getting out of hand, cause her conscience won't hurt as much as Nat's.

And why do you think she has a heart? If she does, you do know that she'd rip it out and offer it on a satin pillow to the first person who said he'd give her power in exchange.

Jessica Whitwell hands down.

It helps that shes my favorite character, but she is heralded as the strongest magician (loads stronger than any of the other ministers).
Also, afrits are commonly stronger than djinn. Djinn, afrit, marid, in that order if I remember. Jessica Whitwell (and yes, hat's how you spell it) has her afrit on standby at all times.
In the first, maybe second book, she is credited with defeating an afrit or marid without a spirit to help her.

Anyway, Jessica Whitwell also serves as Nathaniel's master, meaning she obviously had something to teach him. Through all this, I arrive at the conclusion that Jessica Whitwell would destroy Nathaniel. She just has no reason to.

As a sidenote, Whitwell is also the most honorable of the ministers in that she is the only one, besides Nathaniel, that blatantly goes against the demons in the third book.

Doesn't mean she's better.
Three or Four Djinn can overwhlem an Afrit in combat.
Just don't use the battle against Honorious as an example.

Three or four djinn can be useful.
One could distract (Bartimaeus), another could keeping pounding the afrit with a bunch of Detonations or anything else, and the other could sneak up on it.
Can one afrit do that?
Actually, Honorius was a ninth level afrit, pretty high, so three djinn couldn't over power him.
i agree. plus if Bartis involved how could there even be a question? :D
But I was under the impression that Jessica Whitwell against John Mandrake would have nothing to do with their demons. In magical skill and prowess, its obvious who would win. Whitwell.

Jessica refused to allow a demon enter her body (which would end up giving her more powers). True, she knew the demon would wreck her mind but even if she did'nt know, I seriously doubt she would have done it. For her it is kind of repugnant. So, I guess she has a conscience though I doubt she would be against it (allowing a demon to enter her) just becoz it's morally wrong. I think it has more to do with pride. I suppose u r right then, but something makes me feel she had more conscience then the other abominable magicians (excluding Nat, of course). Mightbe, something which I read in one of the books about her................... need to go & check up.

I think it's morals, and she wouldn't want to be controlled.
She did see the others, after all.

Still she is better than most magicians. And she & Nat also happen to be the strongest. They also are the least corrupted (in their department). Ironic is'nt it? I would have thought the bad ones would resort to real cruel methods to gain powers & thus be more powerful.

Just because she's less corrupt doesn't mean she isn't cruel, though I don't put stock in the idea.
She and Mandrake were the most powerful there, plain and simple.

Sure, Whitwell could be annoying at times, but I did actually like her. The thing she did at the end, summoning the afrit, was awesome.

Very.
Shows that she is principaled(sp I'm sure), even if she can be pissy at times.
I particulary liked the part when she slams her fist down on the table, with the aura playing around her hand.
"Could you care to repeat that, :::"
Dots because I can't remember the war ministers name.
Btw, I'm on my PS3
