lol Nero, grammar Nazi.
I agree with Apollo's statement, if not his spelling. :P

What are you loonies talking about? My spelling was immaculate, as usual.

Faquarl is stronger in terms of power and speed, but Barty has beaten him many times using logic and wit.
When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney.

I wouldn't say beaten him, but gotten away at least.
I'm going for Faquarl too.
:)

Yeah, we hardly have seen Barty beat anyone. Even Faquarl & Jabor died more because of their own mistakes.

Bartimaeus beat Jabor, among others.

Ah, but do you remember how Faquarl actually died? Even Bartimaeus thinks that he could have been faster, and wonders if what he said about abandoning the other place got through to Faquarl.
Bartimaeus did beat Jabor, even though Jabor had more brute strength. If Jabor had been a little more quick-witted, he might not have died.

Yes. Bartimaeus is able to beat those with more physical strength than himself through one way or another, be it wit or luck.

I still say Bartimaeus can beat the Merc.

Luck? I don't know about that, but maybe great skill in dodging and evasion, with the occassional bit of luck.

Occassionally. Besides, it really depends on which spirit you're asking.

What? Bartimaeus is the spirit in question, and the scenario is him versus Varoq.

Oh, well I was talking about Bartimaeus v Farquarl, which is the topic. There's another discussion for Bart v Verroq. What I meant by "it depends which spirit you're asking" was reffering to how much of Bart beating other spirits is luck.

Depends on the spirit and circumstances, entirely.

No, what I mean is that if you asked Bartimaeus, he wouldn't say all his escapes were luck would he? If you asked, say, Faquarl, he'd say the opposite.

True. But neither is correct.
Faquarl might be stronger compared to Bart, but the latter will win. Always.

Or at least escape. But yes, Bartimaeus always owns Faquarl.

Not even.
He gets (pardon my 1337) pwned horribly by Faquarl.
