When Nathaniel meets Harlekin, he saw the candle and said thats squirmy and so on. Harlekin said he had cut a part of the body and put the candle on.
Was that a hand or a complete arm? Or maybe something other?

It's the from the wrist up. (i.e. just the hand) Hmmm. It seems his name is spelled differently german too. In English it's spelled "Harlequin" and it refers to a type of acrobat or clown.

Why would it need to be partially skeletal to hold it? This really isn't "wedged", but I imagine that it's just got it's fingers wrapped around the candle.
