i might have the wrong thing here but it is like a big magnet. if you have earings in they will rip out and attach to it. one of my friends got her shoe stuck to it.

Yes, Abel is right. A NMRI scanner is a HUGE superconducting magnet. You put anything even vaguely magnetic near it and it'll get attracted to the magnet, like paperclips to a normal magnet, only a few million times more so.

So if you have metal plates implanted in your skull you can't get an MRI?

If you have any metal plates or pins which are magnetic or alloys including magnetic materials, you can't get an MRI.

darn... sucks to be someone who has metal...

I think I will implant some metal in me, then when I go through metal detectors they will always go of..

wait, I don't want to be strip searched or anything, bad Idea...

metal they put in your body shouldnt set off metal detectors. my dad has loads of metal in his hand and he gets through fine.

They do tend to use titanium or alloys of it, which is generally fine through metal detectors because airport metal detectors are quite frankly awful, and you need a considerable amount of even iron or steel to set them off, so a tiny bit of magnetic metal in an alloy is too little to register.

However, you have even a couple of grams of magnetic metal in your metal pins/plates/whatever and you go near an NMRI scanner, you're screwed.

ive just been informed by my friend that prison tatoos contain too much iron or something, so when they go near one it gets ripped out of their skin.

i ALWAYS set the metal dector off. its fine in england but in germany they make you undo your trousers, take off your shoes etc. they let me take on a pen knife but not a music box once. bstds.

Undo your trousers??!

Well, they do make you take off your shoes in UK. At least at the major airports Ive been to.

yeah, you take off your belt to go through so your trousers are already falling. then it beeps because of the button so they make you undo it  only happened once tho. i cant stand it tbh 'im a 13 year old girl (well, 15 now) do you reallly need to feel me up to check that i havent slipped a gun down my trouser leg??' thought not. tis just stupid sometime. the only time they have been really annoying was when they tipped everything out my bag to get at my ipod and usb stick. they then couldnt put it back in so i had to walk to the gate while dropping EVERYTHING

Ooooooh...

Now that's bad...

I'd hate it if it happened to me.

I'm back! Here's what happened:

*I have to flash back a bit*
On the 11th of Febuary (2006) I had this weird spell. I was concentrating really hard, the class was quiet, and I starting hearing someone whisper my name. I turned around to see who it was, but no one was looking at me. I turned around three or four times, still hearing the voice, and no one was looking at me. I started getting dizzy, got a headache towards the forehead, nausea, and I was badly disorented. My face felt hot whenever I touched it (although it wasn't red) and...MY FEET WERE COLD!!! () I went home early that day and stayed home the next. Mom thought I had some sort of anxiety/panic attack, but I had my doubts. Why would I get it for no reason?

I went to the children's hospital (WHY?!?!) and turns out I only had an appoitment and not an actual MRI. So I went to talk to the doctor and told him everything about that day. He wrote it all down with the added fact that I get this tingly feeling around my left eye that comes and goes as it pleases. The doctor examined me a bit, took more notes, and left.

He came back a minute later and said, "The blood tests came back normal," --I put on alot of weight when I was a kid after I had my tonsils removed and they thought it could've been because of my thyroid-- "But I think the spell she had could've been a Silent Seizure." I never had the spell before, so it was likely. We set up a date to get a MRI to check for Seizure damage and I need to get an EEG to monitor my brainwaves. How very interesting am I. ;)

what about a migrane (sp)?

What about it? I've only gotten a migrane once before and it wasn't then.

My friend seems to have a bit of the same problems as you. She has to get an MRI on her headaches.

Glad to know you're fine, Anuk.

I have migrains every day and I don't need an MRI. Just a very good pair of sunglasses and a lot of advil. Hers must be pretty bad if she needs MRIs.

You have almost as many problems as I do.

Yes, I hope you feel better.

Her MRIs showed nothing, I found out today.

I can't say I'm perfectly normal until I get the EEG and MRI to see if I really DID have a Silent Seizure

Yes, we're two peas in a pod, huh?
