Is it weird that I always imagine Farqual as looking like Squidward?

Yes. Too weird. Too out of character. Faquarl's not that sad.
Not personality wise, I meant his true form. Maybe it's because Bartimaeus described him as having a lot of tentacles...

Err, who is Squidward?

Ever seen Spongebob Squarepants? His neighbour.

Please god not Spongebob. That pathetic show fills me with disgust

HIGH FIVE!
Oh, and David Cat, you can't join the insane club yet, you haven't fully felt the insanity closing in.... :gladstone:
Maybe around seventy posts. I felt it around one hundred. :P
Well I have 225 right now and I'm still undecided.

I don't really like Spongebob either but I am a little biased. When I was 12 I went to a Girl Guide camp and was treated (I'd never actually seen the show before) to the other girls singing the theme song at every possible opportunity. :X That can really make you hate something...

But Gary is cool. :sun:

Oh yeah the cat-snail.
What I like about Faquarl is that, when you think about it, he's very much the main villain of the series. Or at least in Ptolemy's Gate. He was the one who manipulated Makepeace into summoning Nouda. The only reason Nouda was even in the book, I think, was to give a villain powerful enough that Nat would have to sacrifice himself.

And he's not entirely unsympathetic. We see how the magicians treat the demons throughout the whole series. Can't really blame him for wanting to turn the tables, yeah?
I agree Silver Noble, Faquarl had always been a 'recouring villian'

I can't quite say villian. None of the djinni really are. It's just the magicians that turn them into the personality they are. They force the spirits to fight each other.

And I don't think that Nouda was made just as to "sacrifice" Nat.

And welcome both of you. :welcome:

Well I suppose I should have used the term antagonist. But he was playing Makepeace, at least in the end there. I suppose Makepeace was responsible for a lot of the first two books though...

The reason I say that, it seems that Stroud wanted Nat to sacrifice himself. But he wanted it to be more willing, not as though he were killed in battle, exactly. Since he'd already introduced the Staff, he needed something more powerful than a handful of djinni, or even an afrit.

Perhaps I'm wrong. But otherwise, I don't see the reason for including such a powerful spirit right at the end, of whom there was no mention before.

Lovelace acted on his own, with Makepeace offering his aide, in AoS.
Makepeace is directly responsible for events in GE and PG.
