He's a test account. Named after Colonel-in-Chief Sir Nils Olav of the Norwegian King's Guard, a long-serving and reliable officer who happens to be a king penguin.

What's that, you'd like to sample the wonders of negative posts too?

Hi, I'm new here. Anyway, I definitely like Nathaniel. I felt really bad for him in The Amulet of Samarkand because he was basically abandoned and generally unwanted. Maybe one reason I like him is because he's easily the best character morally out of the main three. You might argue against that, but Bartimaeus doesn't feel remorse for other people's deaths, and Kitty was a criminal, helping to steal from and physically attack all magicians because one magician was unfair to her.
:welcome: CrystalWizard.
Always nice to see a newbie who actually has good grammar...

About Kitty, yes she was a criminal, but she was helping (or trying to, at least) the oppressed masses, and trying to get them to overthrow their corrupt government and upper-class.
Nothing morally wrong with that.

Of course I'm not one of those people, thank you very much. I'm on another forum too, you know, and I find those people very annoying myself. I never type that way. Why would I want to make myself look stupid?

I guess you have a point about Kitty, but I didn't sympathize with her. She basically joined the resistance only because of what Tallow did, and she didn't have any idea what other magicians were like as people. Plus, terrorism isn't the right thing to do if you feel something is unfair.

Hardly terrorism, the Resistance didn't kill people (apart from that one who tried to take out the PM...still, assassination and terrorism are hardly the same...).

Anyway, what other options did they have?

"Hello, Mr Devereaux, could you please stop oppressing us, please?"
"Since you put it so politely, I shall stop."
Yeah, I can see that working...

:welcome: looks like you'll fit in well! (what's with the influx of smart newbie's anyhow?)

And forget newbies, it's hard to see a teenager (though there's a sadly large amount of adults as well) bother using proper grammar on the internet. From someone who has only one friend who does thank you and everyone else here who does.

Shutting up now.

Anyway, though think a lot of the stuff they do was wrong, Tallow's not the only cruel magician. And Bartimaeus is just doing what he does so he's not destroyed.

Welcome, CrystalWizard. Beverages are in the fridge, make yourself at home.

And the Resistance was a terrorist organization, but with a good intent.

That's like justifying the LTTE.

I seem to recall Mandrake saying something like:

"I don't remember the Resistance being afraid to use force when necessary. Let's see: What were the casualty figures? Several people killed, others maimed and - "

So... you get my point. Even if they didn't mention it in the books it IS possible.

Agreed. I know it's nigh on impossible to do something other than that to make a point, but that leads me to wonder if there's some kind of ban or something preventing commoners from joining poltics. As far as I can see, it's more of an automatic assumption that once the magicians are in rule, no commoners can try to join.

I'm not one to complain, though - the Resistance being terrorists is the interesting conflict of Golem's Eye. What they're doing is paradoxically wrong: their motive is ok, their aims are morally correct but the way they're going on about it is morally dubious.

I suspect that, even if there wasn't an outright ban on commoners joining the government, they'd simply be laughed at and/or suffer unfortunate "accidents" if they tried.

Bad grammer like when people say: ppl, u, etc? Why do some people go crazy about that? We just get used to computer chat.
And rebellion is definately right but not terrorism.

Edit: Kno to. I keep wanting to say kno

Because it's stupid, lazy, and incredibly annoying to read.

Ditto.
Either way, terrorism is rarely justifiable at all, the resistance was very nearly so.
The one who tried to take out the PM was a little off his rocker, unhappy, and impatient.
I suspect that Nat's comment is a little skewed; he's a magician talking about commoners, after all.
I don't doubt some people were killed, but I do doubt that they were planned to be killed.
Remember how Stan and... ah hell, the other one, disobeyed Kitty and did what they wanted?
I think a goodly amount of the deaths were due to them, or accidents resulting from the Resistance's actions, not targeted assassinations.

lol is just easy - sometimes it's what I say when I can't think of anything worthwhile to say, or if I think the comment was too stupid to bother thinking of something worthwhile.
I don't use lmao and rofl that much.
Also, fun.
