French, for most people, are their verbs. There's quite a few exceptions (though not as many as English). There's a few grammar rules and whatnot that require memorization, but how difficult French is always seems to be personal. While getting the right gender is always difficult for someone whose language has no gender, for me, it's always the preps that get me.

Anyways, Chinese is bloody hard. /topic
Yeah, so many alphabets. BTW, the languages I know too (apart from English obviously), have the gender thing. So I don't find it difficult or anything. I just feel English is quite an inadequate language, compared to so many others. Especially when it comes to writing, as it has only few alphabets.

Agree. Totally agree. There are like, a million characters.

Japanese isn't very exciting actually, because it's structured (or at least we're taught it that way) and after a while the words start to blur together. And it involves the old Chinese characters, which can screw with your chinese after a while.

My Year One sensei was from Korea, and she was also learning mandarin XD

YaY!!!!!!!!! I just can't wait. Well... I'll have to wait till 2011, to read a translation that is not even half as good as the original :( ... but it's awesome, too :) . I'd like to read the English version, but it's really difficult for me to read in English, for some reason...

When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney.

Something symbolic in that. It's what fake freedom does for you.

The only details we currently have are from Stroud's journal here: http://jonathanstroud.com/journal.html

Im learning Spanish (2nd year). The thing I find the hardest so far are stem-changers in the preterite and past imperfect tense...

1) Welcome
2) Nice sig. I'm dying to see the picture.
3) I had two years of Spanish, didn't care about, and so didn't learn a whole lot of it.
When I really want to learn it, I'll grab RosettaStone.

Didn't see anything posted about this:
http://www.amazon.com/Ring-Solomon-Bart ... 423123727/

New Barti book is called The Ring of Solomon. The hardcover release is Nov 2nd apparently... but the audio book release is September 14th, so it could be that date as well.

"Bartimaeus, everyone's favorite (wise-cracking) djinni, is back in book four of this best-selling series. As alluded to in the footnotes throughout the series, Bartimaeus has served hundreds of magicians during his 5,010 year career. Now, for the first time, fans will go back in time with the djinni, to Jerusalem and the court of King Solomon in 950s BC. Only in this adventure, it seems the great Bartimaeus has finally met his match. He'll have to contend with an unpleasant master and his sinister servant, and runs into just a "spot" of trouble with King Solomon's magic ring.."

I kinda wanted a sequel though, not a prequel :(
:welcome: Kiyo!!
OMG YAYY!! HORRAYY!! NEW BARTI BOOK!!
But I wouldn't want the "original trilogy" to continue. It wouldn't be the same without Natty-boy!! I didn't even think I would read 'bout Barti ever again when I finished PG. So, a prequel is great, too.
