All djinni are different. And all spirits are different. I think Bartimaeus is fine the way he is.
He's arrogant enough as it is he doent need more power

Plus he survived 5010 years wich proves he doent need more power
I am Bartimaeus, Sakhr al-Jinni!! I am N'gorso the Mighty, and the SERPENT OF SILVER PLUMES!! I have spoken with Solomon, and rebuilt the walls of Uruk, Karnak and Prague!!

I think if there is another book Bartimaeus should somehow be returned to the height of his powers, the powers he had two thousand years before Nathaniel summoned him.

He probably had those powers when he was first summoned by twelve-year-old Nat. It was just being kept on earth for so long in book three that sapped him.
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

To be honest, even if it is impossible, I still think he should be promoted. But then again, he suits being a Djinn. Anything more and he might get cocky. Er, I mean, more cocky. :S

Poor Barti - who voted no?
There is a sort of busy worm,
That will the fairest book deform,
Their tasteless tooth will tear and taint
The poet, patiot,sage or saint,
Nor sparing wit nor learning.
Now, if you'd know the reason why,
The best of reasons I'll supply;
'Tis bread to this poor vermin.

Bartimaeus promoted :sentynel: nooo. haha. I prefer his witty personality over his strength. Also, it is pretty certain that there aren't going to be any more books.
I agree. I like his personality.

Barti should be promoted to an afrit at least in my opinion. Although i don't think he would be so rude or funny if he were an afrit.

ok, i haven't spent the time to read all four pages, but it seems that the detractors are missing somthing- what if demons can be "charged"? Bart implys that by consuming another spirits essence, the power of that creature is transfered over. Say you have a talisman, wouold it be possible to "lend" some of the talismans power to the spirit? For healing or maybe just that extra kick during battle? I've thought about it alot, and I've come to the conclusion that by their very nature, spirits can hold more essence than normal, look at Nouda when he eats people, I'm sure that the same could happen with power lent, though it might be painful. The big question is, can a spirit retain this power? If it can, then definetly, spirits could be "promoted", just not in the normal sense.

Ask Mr. Stroud.
Right, what would happen if Bartimaeus turned into a big*insert name of something big* and swallowed the Amulet of Samarkand? Would he gain power?

If someone was whereing it, then by it's nature bart would be absorbed, he mentions this in AoS when nat puts it on. If he ate it like it is, I'm not sure, it depends if a spirit "digests" things, if so then it depends still on if he can digest it. If he can, then the incredibly powereful spirit inside would be released like in a similar fashion as Gladstones staff, blowing bart apart unless he can somehow manage to control an internal explosion.
:hmm: you ask him, or find my quiestion and add a comment, adding another question to mine.

I don't think demons have digestive systems...they can change to a wisp of smoke...how dies smoke digest things, let alone eat them?

True, but it does corrode. When bart was eatin by one of the bird djinn near hopkins, his essence was being corroded away, so assuming the same can happen with, say, gold and a blue gem, then ya he could eat it.

He should be promoted. I don't know if it's actually possible, but if it is, it should be done. Now.
Phoebus Mite
Theoretically it should be possible, not getting "promoted" but gaining strength. Barti mentions multiple times that by eating other spirits, you add their essence to your own, and he eats Truklet (Clive Jenkins imp) for that reason, he wants more energy (power) because he is weak. So if a djinn was to constantly eat others (Jabor) shouldnt he gain essence over time and thus become stronger?
He is very cleaver, so yes. Indeed.

Promoted?
A Djinni is a Djinn no matter what.
He just can't be a an Afrit or something higher, because he can't.
He talked bout this in the book if i recall.
