Does it matter what djinn and djinni is? Djinni is a rank and djinn is more than one, I believe...
Anyway, for the Detonations...I believe imps and higher could do it, but it wouldn't be powerful in the slightest with an imp.
Dismemberment is the way to go.

Imps are cannon fodder, i believe. Kitty took out a Foliot with apparent ease.
What about the other spells? I've never seen Bartimaeus use a pestilence or illusion... ;)

barti uses illusions (concealements anyways) but I think that the pestilences are reserved for afrits or greater.

Magicians can cause pain to spirits in various ways, but I don't think they can attack themselves. Mind you, Whitwell appears to cast a Shield in Gate.
