If there is only one brick, it's a Lego brick/piece.
The manufacturers don't get to decide how their product is referred to.
This is the sensible, accepted usage, yes. As opposed to Dansariki's usage, which is neither correct nor sensible.

You Americans don't care for spelling either...'color'

Colour just doesn't make sense, unless someone French is speaking.
Stupid French.
Color or coh-ler is how it's said, and so should be spelled that way.
Not that spelling makes sense this days, I know a chick whose name is Siobahn, and it's said Chevon, as in Chevelle.
Go figure.

Well, if you're being phonetical about it, 'color' would be pronounced coll-orr.

Edit: or cull-orr.

Because funnily enough, those words, like much of English, are in fact derived from French..

However, one's grammar shouldn't be considered any less sophisticated due to some odd technicality surrounding a plastic toy.

One can also abuse such rules if one desires and still speak in fine, acceptable grammar.

Also, becasue a nation or group of people spells words differently than other nations that speak the same language makes them wrong? Or stupid? Or inferior?

Edit: And in these parameters, you're not being fair to the French people.

I don't like the french, period.
Besides, justice and that which is inferior rests with those in power.
Like history, the rules regarding superiority are written by those in power.

..er, the definition of grammar is that it's a set of rules defining how to use the words in a language. You can't ignore grammatical rules and still be talking with acceptable grammar..

Sure. The whole American spelling system is abuse of the English language through laziness. It makes me sad. =(

Nothing wrong with that. It's a good adjustment to make words resemble how we speak. The laziness is that the job was only halfway done and spellings like 'detour' and 'thorough' are still around.

I mean, the metric system is considered better because it's easier to do conversions. Perhaps in that case it's us Americans who are doing things properly and the rest of the world is mathematically lazy. >.>

So what if we have a slightly different spelling system from yours? If anything, it makes us feel just a bit more free from our previous rulers.

The point of my grammar statement was to say that even of someone doesn't have perfect, immaculate grammar down to the last Lego-type rule, they shouldn't be labeled with "poor grammar".

Sent says grammar is a defined set of rules, and rules can be different, depending on the country and language, so there really isn't such a thing as bad grammar, just grammar with little acceptance in the world arena.

Metric makes sense as a whole, though. American spellings, as you so rightly pointed out, still don't make any sense. If the entire language had been re-written to be self-consistent and simpler in spelling, that'd be good. As it is, it's like redefining the foot to have ten inches in and leaving all the other ridiculous bits of the imperial system. Irritating, daft, and ultimately futile.

Hmm. The metric system and the imperial system are both good, but for every person, there's only one of them that actually means something.
