A Bartimaeus Trilogy Manga?

General Discussion
I'm no fan of manga. At all. But I respect people's views. I think it'd be horrible, but who knows, could be sen as great to other people. As they say: beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. But I personally think manga=impossibly beautiful/graceful people in fancy/resplendent clothes. Or somewhere along those lines.

But really, after tons of imagining the story in a sort of real life (what do you call the one where they hire actors and actresses?), I recently realized that it would do pretty darn good as a cartoon. There are just some scenes that are perfect for cartoon style. I mean like El Derado and maybe Atlantis sort of style. Ooh, like that scene where Bartimaeus hits the female pigeon (poor bird) or how Simon Lovelace's glasses tend to reflect the light? Yeah, Imma stop talking/writing now.
I could have said something dramatic and eerie like "The death of us all!" but it wouldn't have gotten us very far. ~ Amulet of Samarkand

Yeesh, alot of people here don't like manga. I mean, I can understand why some people dislike it, but how is it horrific? Manga is not all impossibly beautiful people, as some people seem to think. Those characters are called either bishounens, or bishojos, and they don't represent all of anime and manga. Trust me, if you read Ode to Kirihito, your idea of exactly how 'horrific' manga is would change drastically. Sorry if I sound unusually offended, but I draw manga, and I read alot of it too. It's a medium for stories just like any other - saying this medium is overdone is like saying that live-action movies are overdone. It's a way of expressing your story. You have your frankly horrible ones, and your good ones, just like with american comics, movies, video games, etc.

I should probably interject that I like american cartoons and comics also, but I'm just trying to state my opinion here. It should be worth noting that the man considered to be the originator of manga, Osamu Tezuka, was influenced alot by Disney. The classic anime "style" is in fact lifted from American animation.

Alright, I probably should get back to the point of this topic. Personally, I think the Bartimaeus Trilogy would come out great in any form of media, as long as it's in the right hands, as it is with most things. Also, I rather like the graphic novel adaptation it's already getting. I do have my problems with it, but all in all, I think it's not bad. But the idea of a Bartimaeus manga isn't all that bad either, though I don't see why there should be one. One graphic novel adaptation is enough.

The idea of an animated cartoon sounds like it would be cool, too, but personally I think the books will always be best. :)
This is my signature. Why yes, I am quite proud of it, thank you very much. I raised the fellow meself.
Agreed 100%. I love manga too, but I respect people's opinions :) .

I don't think bishies would change their view on it, tho.

And, still, I think BT would make an epic anime, because of the storyline and characters.

God i hate manga. I'm an illustrator so i like something with a bit of style and flare rather than:

A: manga/anime =horrifically overdone and rated.

B: realistic/superhero style which has no originality what-so-ever.

honestly i'd prefer the art for the graphic novel to be something more like what the artemis fowl series looks like. http://artemisfowl.fangathering.com/new ... -previews/

as long as they don't butcher the characters like the artist for that one. God i so would've loved them graphic novels more if they would've kept to the character designs.

but yeah. I want them to look something like that.
What manga/anime have you been reading/watching dude graphic novel = manga Art style the are in anime are mostly taken from graphic novels and not manga so your argument is invalid :thnks:

Hnnngh okay I'm just going to pop in briefly because this bothered me a bit.

While I'm definitely not wild about the idea of a Bartimaeus manga either, I hate to see any art style so blatantly dismissed without any real reason. While I'll be the first to agree that it isn't the ideal storytelling/display medium for everything and that emulation of manga isn't a great way for budding artists to start out because of its stylistic quirks (high stylization in any given case is not conductive to learning basics like anatomy, perspective, expressions, character design, etc., because starting learners will take that stylistic mold and use it as their standard/base, which it isn't. It's a mold that's really difficult to break out of once you've started in it, whether we're talking about manga, Disney, DC comics or whatever), it's definitely a credible style of its own that, when done right, has tons of flare and expressiveness. Manga art definitely has a big stigma attached to it - for a good reason, I'll grant you, due to the blobbyness of a vast majority of it - but even if it won't get you far in any art colleges... it's fun, it's pretty, it draws people in, and it can definitely be done excellently.

The above applies to superhero comics and any other style that anyone might discriminate against.

Besides, I dare you to look up the art of Takeshi Ohbata (or Death Note) and say with a straight face that manga style cannot be BEYOND BAMF.
Or Jo Chen maybe?

.... wow, I am off topic. MAN I DUNNO ABOUT A BT MANGA. Wasn't too fond of the graphic novel, though I loved the coloring and liked the majority of the designs. Presentation was less than fantastic though... the way it was paneled/storyboarded didn't really hold any of the tension of the book, which I'm a little frustrated about because I think that it could have been pulled off. I guess if a manga meant another shot at it, I'd be cool with it?

Personally I think a Bartimaeus manga wouldn't be nearly as good as the books... but I think it would be interesting to see how it would be done.
It could be done really well though tbh
