Largely correct, except for the bit about "curiously few snakes". We have many venomous snakes. Is that part supposed to be a joke? And yes, the platypus. Definately one of the most awesome animals ever. It should replace the kangaroo as our signature animal.

It was a joke. Everyone knows Australia's full of snakes; he was reinforcing the point about how dangerous the spiders are.
