Why is it harder to call powerful spirits?

Hello,

lately I've been wondering why is it harder to call a marid than a djinni? I understand that a marid could kill a whole bunch of people and destroy buildings and such but since magicians are very selfish would they care since they'd be dead either way? I didn't find the answer in the books so I came here to see if you guys could help me out :)

The answer, as to most things in the books, is power. You need a lot of power to summon such a great entity, just look at the huge pentacle in AOS. It probably takes a lot of energy to pull an unwanting participant from the OP. The more powerful the spirit, the harder it is to control, and while magicians may not care about others getting killed, they do care about their spirits turning on them and becoming their next meal. Said spirits, as seen, have zero problems with it.

I think its a good question though, over what specifically is meant by power. Pure will? Stamina?

Energy, concentration and control, I'd say. Awereness and intelligence probably plays some part too.

The summoning incantations are longer for bigger spirits too. Probably its just easier to summon the lesser spirits because you don't have to memorize as much
