Never watched it, but I heard it was still crappy, and didn't do the brilliance of GC any justice.

Actually, all things considered, it's a great movie.
Even if you've read the book, it's a close enough adaption to warrant watching.
Nice to know they get something right...

Thought they did tone down a couple crucial things, but that was just annoying, it didn't drastically change the plot or anything.

They should have kept the overtones.
The way they cut the ending pissed me off, but it makes sense from the sequel perspective.
