Ah I think it has to do something with whether you have those langauge packs on your computer or not. If not, and you run Windows, then you need to get the Microsoft Word CD and install those language packs on your computer. (I had this warning a long time ago, so I'm not really sure if I'm right.)

For Mac and Linux, I don't really know. (Although the characters appear on the computers at my school, which are Macs, btw.)

Back to topic, I'm self taught in Japanese too. :)

Hogwarts is correct, yes. You need a Chinese/Japanese language pack installed on your computer to display them. Some come with them, some don't. I'm not sure if the Microsoft Office CDs actually ship with them by default or not..

English and Portuguese (sorta).
I speak Hindi, Tamil & English. A bit of Marathi too. Since i am a Tamilian, I find other South-Indian languages (i.e. Malyalam, Kannada & Telugu) easy to understand but I don't speak them.

Also learning a bit of Korean too. (unintentionally)

Er...one, Taekwondo classes. They use Korean words a lot there.

Two, I sometimes end up watch parts of those Korean dramas my mom watches (got bored of them a long time ago).

Three, I'm a fan of some Japanese singers that are actually from Korea (ex. BoA and DBSK). Sometimes I see Korean words written in the comments of their Japanese MVs on YouTube.

Four, there are tons of Korean people living in my neighborhood and going to my school.

However, I'm more interested in Japanese than Korean...but it still sounds like a good language.

Whew, foreign territory here for me.
I'd perfer Japanese myself, but I think Korean looks better.
Cleaner somehow.
