Basically, just ask a 'what if' question and then answer it, or ask other people what they think.

So for example:

What if Makepeace had successfully managed to usurp the prime minister and take control? Anyone think Hopkins would have backstabbed him?

Cause seriously, Makepeace did basically nothing. Hopkins. Now he was the brains of the operation.
I'd have to read it again, but didn't Makepeace do a lot of it himself? Or was his main strength just having the ear of the PM? Was Hopkins even a magician?

This should be my reading week project.

I think Hopkins as Faquarl would have backstabbed him.

Hmm.... I don't think Hopkins was a magician. He's just mentioned as a 'scholar', and he infiltrated the resistance, and if he'd been raised into wealth and power, you'd think the other magicians would have known more about him.

But then, he summoned Faquarl into his body, so maybe he was like Kitty, born a commoner but learned magic later.

Did Hopkins summon Faquarl into his own body, or was it like with Nicholas Drew with Makepeace doing the summoning itself?

The alternate reality I always wonder about is if the raid had succeeded; if Honorius hadn't been there. Probably nothing of worth, but it'd be interesting to see it play out. I guess I just yearn for more resistance stories.

Interesting premise. Would the Resistance have given Gladstone's staff to Makepeace?
