Of course we didn't use sharp blades! O.o

Worst injuries I saw at my club were just some nasty bruises, though I did see a broken collarbone at a competition. Injuries are pretty rare though.

Actually the people at my school aren't more or less violent then the kids in any other high school in the city (except for the part where our wrestling team always wins everything :D ), me least of all. But I can have so much fun when people just think that I am... *evil grin*

I believe the very first book I ever posted about in this thread was actually a book about fencing. Didn't finish it then though; I went back to it last fall and finally finished it.

And that, dear children, is your boring pointless fact for the day.

Whoa, a violent school in London?

If you think that's violent, look at some schools in Toronto... hired security, constant police stationed, metal detectors at the entrances...

And why is that? Don't tell me the students are that violent.

Yes we are. I'm sure some schools in the US are worse.

But yes some schools in Toronto are that bad. I suppose sometimes its a bit overblown, since I know a lot people who used to go to Toronto schools. But still it's fairly bad.
O_o. I really thought you were exaggerating in the beginning.
We have absolutely no such problems here. Oh yeah, there have been a couple of cases of knifing or something, but they are so terribly rare that they don't warrant such protection.

The Body of Christopher Creed - Carol Plum Ucci

Mind you N&B, the schools I've been to are fairly mild. So unfortunately =P I'm not some cold badass kid.

=p. You think that. How do you know I don't think of you as a cold, badass kid?

Um, I am reading my textbooks. Exam tomorrow. *Sigh*

DO you think that of me?
No, no =D. Such a thing about you never even entered my head. So there =p.

What is it with nerds and fencing? (besides the "swords") Multiple nerdy friends of mine all fence.

I stayed up late Saturday to read Youth in Revolt - C.D. Payne. The movie is coming out soon, but I don't know how they'll manage to stick everything in it. I really can't wait though, it was a very enjoyable book. Pretty much, it's a teen comedy for smart people.

Because it's less violent than football, rugby, etc?

That's your reason?

I'd have said it's more badass to fence than to hug another man then throw him on the ground.

Reasons I fenced included how awesome it is, how awesome my coach was, and that it got me out of other sports.

You're kidding, right? Rugby is brutal.

Yeah, movie's been out for months; that's what the internet is for. ;)

I wish my school had rowing, personally. We don't have much. My school's actually doing a lot better with sports this year (except for hockey, mainly because the private leagues don't like their players playing for their high school. The good players stay there because there's a better chance of getting farther in the sport that way); I maintain this is because the kids my age are in charge. :D I'm so proud of them.

Yeah I know rugby's brutal. I was talking about American football, which is not even close.

Except in the US, players have to be in Uni to play pro hockey. We should be doing the same so we don't have so many drop outs.

Why, didn't you like the other sports you played? What were they, anyway?

Rugby, which as mentioned is extremely violent, and at the time I was both short and very light. Not a good combination.
Football (soccer), which I sucked at and hated.
Cricket, which is just dull (don't hurt me).

I also did rowing for a year, and I quite enjoyed it, but everybody seems to take it so SERIOUSLY. Training at all hours and stuff.

Edit: I also love badminton, but I didn't get the option to play it at school until I'd been fencing for ages and didn't want to give that up.
