Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

Guys, I'm looking for over the ear headphones that don't leak sound and don't cost $300. What do you use? I'm scared that the ones that go all the way into the ear will deafen me eventually if I ever accidentally crank up the volume or hit a loud song and it's unhygienic if you want to share earbuds.

Would it make you jealous if I mentioned that I saw Boston perform that live last summer?

And Lucience, I am not a great person to go for regarding advice on that because whenever I buy headphones from any place more expensive than the Dollarama, they break within a month. I've wrecked 5 pairs in the last year in various gruesome ways.

Cheap over-the-ear ones will inevitably be crap I'm afraid; it's a mechanical issue with the volume of air the driver can move. (The in-ear ones with a silicone seal on the ear canal get around this by isolating the ear canal.) You can bugger up your hearing just as easily with external ones as earbuds, but it's not a single loud event that does the damage (you won't find headphones capable of outputting enough volume to be immediately damaging) - it's long-term use with them too loud that causes problems.
Also, yes, sharing earbuds is icky. Just get a headphone splitter.

Personally, I have a pair of cheap Creative in-ear ones for travelling, and a rather more expensive (though they still weren't unreasonable - £60 ish) Sennheiser over-ear set at home.

yea I know they're not the best option but over the ear is really comfy and warm in winter. I think Sennheiser is on sale rn, I remember seeing it on ebay last night.

To be fair, "More than a Feeling" was actually the only song I got to see them do; stupid Domino's parked their truck in front of where I was working. :(
