I've got several very musical aunts/uncles etc, though, so I'm not sure what happened to my immediate family.
My mom had learnt Carnatic music for many years. She sings very well. My sister really loves music. Apart from the violin, she plays the sarod, the casio and the tabla (this was only for a couple of years in school). She also learnt to sing, but then she couldn't stretch her voice much. I never found much evidence as to whether my dad even knows what music is. I too learnt Carnatic music, but then I gave up because I got bored (even though I could sing OK). I was a kid back then and I had loads more interesting things to do than attend a singing class conducting by a boring master. I now try to learn the casio from my sister whenever I have ample time (which is very rare). The thing is, I don't know if I have the flair for it. My sister can just about play any song on it. She just hits a few keys and then, a minute later, she is like, "I got it!" And I'm like, what the heck. She learnt to play songs on her own at the age of seven. I have spent much more than a few minutes and achieved nothing. That is why I've got tremendous respect for people who can play and compose songs on their own.
And I'm not really sure about my relatives. I don't think anyone has got a craze for music, but several people do sing well and one of my cousin plays the casio pretty nicely too. Many like music (who doesn't? Okay, I know there are exceptions), but no one practises daily or anything.
