I really liked this song... until my shuffle option began to kill it.

If your shuffle is overplaying a single song, it's either too heavily biased towards songs with high playcounts, or you have far too small a music collection. Or both.

Well sometimes it goes in cycles. First it focused on random songs that soon became very familiar. Then it focused on Van Halen songs. Then Led Zeppelin. Then -

You get my point. Sometimes it changes the cycle every time I add songs, sometimes it's just random.

Sounds like you just need a bigger music collection.

How often do you listen to the same song? Songs you like? Your list is so big, I wonder.

I go through periods of obsession with some songs, when I'll keep on adding them to my playlist or whatever, but it doesn't add up to that many. I mean, I thought I'd been playing Escapist - Nightwish a lot lately, and it's 7 times in the past week, and 63 in the last three months. My overall most played song is All Along the Watchtower - Bear McCreary, at 218 plays (since I signed up to last.fm in May 2008).

So, yeah, not that often. Used to be more, of course - I remember hitting 100 plays of Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin on my old laptop, before I'd signed up to last.fm - because I had a much smaller collection then.
