This might have already been discussed, truthfully i didn't look for it, but... When kitty, and Ptolemy crossed over to the other place... their physical body aged and if they stayed too long, then they would die. So, if they stayed in the other place until their physical body died would they still live in the other place and just not ever be able to return, or would they die in the other place as well?

Their physical body aged, but if it aged too much they wouldn't die. You see, when you die, your soul leaves your body. So by opposite logic if you leave your soul leaves your body, your body in turn dies.

You can still return. The longer you stay simply determines how weak you are.

where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

So you can return but if you stayed a lot you become week so you can't move just lie on the floor.

Basically.

But strength, to a degree, can return in time. Look at Kitty.

Ptolemy even regained some movement.

It is all to do with the time. The time in the other place is different to the time on earth, so if you were in the other place you couldn't exactly know when to go back.

I think that if a person's spirit or soul stayed in the other place too long then their body would simply decay and when they returned they would be trapped inside a dead body. Kind of like poor Honorius :pirate1:

Good point.
So if you stayed that long, there would be no point in returning anyway... you would live a better life if you stayed in the other place if it came down to that, so why would you return to an immobile body.

I'm not sure...

If your not a spirit made of essence then it would be difficult to live in the Other Place for eternity wouldn't it? Though...it could be possible, but it seems likely that when the human body dies back on Earth the spirit is pulled back to earth, with nowhere to go.

For example, if a magician summons a Spirit and they die, the spirit automatically goes back to the other place...so when travelling to the other place you just reverse the pentacles spells...meaning if your body dies...your spirit will go back to earth...

i've just confused myself..haha

Meh, Barti said people aren't meant for the other place, She'll get tortured by spirits after all. Besides, souls don't exist.

Actually Bartimaeus says that in the Other Place there is no time.

I didn't know they aged, I thought their physical apearance just changed.

They don't age in the same sense we do, they just... get older.
I say night I'm living in the forest of my dream,
I know the night is not as it would seem,
I must believe in something,
So I'll make myself believe it,
That this night will never go.

What I menat was, it isn't as though they grow and change. They've just been around for more years.

They grow older, but don't age as fast... compare it to like dog years and us... the dogs are normal people, we are the spirits.... dogs age 7times faster then we... I am sure the actual span of human and spirit is much larger... but that was just an example

It's the old Elvish aging thing. No affect of the years on the body.

Oh, good. Because, I was having trouble deciding to picture Kitty as some really old lady or not at the end of Ptolemy's Gate.
