Hello! I have proof that Ptolemy's Gate actually takes place in....(drum roll)
2004!
Weird, huh?
I didn't believe it at first, but please examine the Barti quote in my sig from Book 3. Then calculate from the year Ptolemy died. It's 2004!
So that means (counts on fingers) that AoS takes place in 1999 and GE takes place in 2001!
Sweet. Sorry, I have to post my ingenius calculations whenever I see people discussing this...
Ahem. 2004, in any case. With the American Revolution somehow not taking place yet...and it had to be after 1914, since that date is mentioned by J. Whitwell in the book 3 council meeting.
I wonder what that means for Canada? Do we exist?

Yes, but I don't think we aren't told when Ptolemy died. (at least I don't think so)

And the only known Ptolemy I could find was Claudius, who died when he was kinda old...

Ooh I've been wanting to ask this question for ages. Cool to see some pretty interesting replies. 2004? Their 2004 must be worlds apart (literally and metaphorically) from our own, considering all the technological advances in ours. Do they have cell phones and computers over there? Television?

There was a computer, but primarily they have magic, and never mind the commoners.


Magicians aren't allowed children of their own because it leads to blood feuds and other problems. They can't have that - they'd take too many casualties - so there are no children allowed.

Assuming Ptolemy in our timeline died at the same age as the Ptolemy in the Barti world.


I would say Canada could either be an ally to Britain or still being under control of Britain.

I don't think Canada would very close to Britain 'cause they would have helped a bit more in the war. They're right next to the US, but Nat hadn't included them in his plans at all.

Not that we heard a lot about his plans but still...

The books do tell us when Ptolemy died in the Barti timeline...(*goes and checks*) 124 BC, according to the last section's prologue. so add two thousand, one hundred and twenty nine years to that and its...
okay, easier way, take two thousand one hundred and twenty nine and subtract one hundred twenty four...oops. It's 2005 instead!

Yeah, but whether or not they're powered by demons they have computers, they have buses, and Gladstone (Victorian era, I checked) was one hundred and fifty years ago. That should give you some more proof...

I'm still really wondering about Canada though. I mean, the American Revolution was 1783 or something right? And Canada was confederated in like 1867...so that means that (estimation here) it would be like 2090 before Canada existed! Gah! By itself, I mean. Or maybe the timeline is totally changed and Britain just sort of held on to the USA for a couple hundred years more or something...

Yeah...although maybe Canada would just opt for peaceful separation again...amendments to Constitution and all that...strange thing to talk about sicne Canada's never even mentioned! Except by Bart...he talks about all of North America. Hooray!
