Wow, 100% in my favour! Why don't you vote too, Bartimaeus221? Though I voted for 'yes', I don't think it will be a runaway success. Might take years to stabilize, but I have hope.

hey! i voted no because even tho they have good intentions, they will now be a failure, globally wise, because everyone will be using magic and they wont.... pretty soon, they'll be overcome by some of their enemies, maybe the czech....

Depends, regionally, or world arena?
World-wise, the British Empire's fallen off their high chair, their time's done.
Regionally, I think the general British Isle area will remain theirs, but I doubt Europe will still submit.
The Czechs would re-take Europe for themselves, probably within a very few short short years, maybe even two.

I think the new Britain will be fine. Didn't Jakob mention that in Belgium, people had a commoner government that worked pretty good?
They'll lose all their colonies/provinces like France and Italy. The Czechs don't have many good magicians. All the strong ones either got killed by Gladstone or defected to Britain; I think they mentioned that in Kitty's school. So they can't really do a takeover.

I bet the rest of the world will ignore Britain now that it doesn't control everything, and strong magicians who survived will move onto the next rising magical center.
I always imagined America would be the next big powerhouse...

But only the east coast of America was settled/colonized.
If they started to get stronger, would they begin attacking the native shaman tribes, just like Britain did to Prague in the old days?
Likely. A long series of alliances, invasions, backstabbing, and propaganda.
Just like what happened in the real America! :P

I wonder if magicians will ever get to Australia...
Once magicians are out of Britain, industry and invention will start up again, and maybe someone will manage to find it.
Australia was supposed to be a penal colony (:D) back in Gladstone's time, but if they were too busy conquering other countries, they probably won't have discovered it.
Well, Britain did send prisoners from other countries there. Especially since they couldn't send them to US after the American revolution. So Gladstone would have known, I suppose.

I thought all the prisoners were taken care of in the Tower of London and the bodies were shipped out to the suburbs for burials...
Australia was never mentioned in the books, sadly. :(

There's no way the Tower's big enough to take care of a nation's worth of prisoners, though, especially a nation with as much unrest as they have. There must be other prisons and other means of dealing with them.

Well, I thought the not-so-serious criminals got dealt with on the spot by the police....and demons and the really bad people went to the Tower.

I wonder what the regular prisons for petty London criminals were like. :O
Probably no Mournful Orbs.

The British empire was staging wars every where, their armies will collapse and they will be defenseless, the Czech's will be out for blood and invade and kill them...
The British will be defeated forever until somebody stages a REVOLUTION!!!

The belgiums weren't controlling freaks, they were pretty neutral, now that britian is defenseless they will be over run... so i agree with the theory but the situation makes it impossible...

No Honorious, I am from a much more magical and wonderful place than Britain.

I don't hate America, I'm just not fond of how they treated the native peoples way back when. Or, for that matter, how my country treated them.

Though we are kinda making amends for it, by resigning proper treaties.
Every country has it dark periods and one can never be completely be proud/hate one country. A country is nothing but the people living there and people, world over, are same. History could have changed the way some behave and think, but in the end, there is little difference.

While I really admire many things about the US (especially the way it accepts people from everywhere and its commitment to freedom and all), but I'm not a big fan of its foreign policy. The American leaders always seem to give more priority to short term goals than long term.

There was a recent poll, where the majority thought the US should mind its own business.

So it's not the leaders, its the people. And what the people want is eventually what will happen in a democracy. Never has the leaders who has done otherwise fare well in the polls and overall popularity.
Yeah, so hopefully US would start minding its own business. And anyway, in the future, it wouldn't always be able to butt in everywhere. Other countries are rising and we have to worry about their foreign policies. Like, it has been predicted that China and India would both individually have a bigger economy and GDP than the US by the year 2040. This would hopefully lead to a more multi-polar world (with the EU and Brazil and rising African economies) which would let no single country claim the superpower status . Though China would definitely be the strongest. At least, this century.
